I built an interactive map of Latin America, with a timeline that allows you to visualize the political history of the region since 1789. Check it out! latamap.com

@neerajadeshp If you like democracy, you gotta be happy to see the more representative politician win. Zohran is the more representative candidate of NYC Democrats! And besides, since I don't live there, this will be far more entertaining🍿

TBH it’s a good thing that Zohran won—Cuomo likely would have been like Biden, appearing “moderate” while ultimately having to appease the same crazies to whom Zohran is outright pandering (and to whom he ultimately belongs. This outcome is more honest, no delusions about who the Democrats are.

A guy on my engineering team gave his standup update by just saying “it’s looking good over here” and then muted. I'm saying that forever now

@redketchup69 @docgotham @bariweiss @TheFP It's rare to learn a new word by finding it in the dictionary. Usually you just hear it used enough that it subconsciously enters your vocabulary. In the moment, Bari second guessed herself... but upon reflection, she knew exactly what it meant, used it correctly, and was right!

@docgotham @bariweiss @TheFP I dont dislike Bari on a left right axis, i dislike her for using a term "Assad Toadie" and then being asked to explain it and freezing like a child.

I love @bariweiss ' project, @TheFP . It's rather amusing to watch people on X discover it through an article they agree with, only to recoil the next day when The Free Press publishes an op-ed contradicting yesterday's perspective. This reaction speaks volumes about how most news outlets have long committed to specific ideological positions without deviation. thefp.com

@growing_daniel Sorry for your loss, Daniel. My grandma is also a Methodist minister's wife... with what sounds like many amazing shared personality traits. Sounds like yours lived a long and fruitful life. I pray mine makes it as far as 96 too!

I buried my grandma today. She was the most wonderful woman in the world! All at once feminine and capable and practical and relentlessly kind. A Methodist minister's wife, she had a natural interest and excitement whenever she met another soul and would often become a comical burden when I would take her on errands as she had to compliment and engage every person we interacted with. This is the kind of personality that immediately builds friend groups that become communities. We haven't enough of these people now. Her first husband was affluent and cheated on her, and when she learned this she marched down to the cocktail bar he was at and slapped his face and demanded a divorce in front of everyone. Suddenly the big house disappeared and she was alone to raise four kids, working doubles as a nurse and sleeping in a four post bed they all shared in her studio apartment. I grew up sleeping in that bed when I visited her! She did this for years, alone, looking stoic in every image from this time and shrugging it off every time I asked her about it. I have a certain hard nosed attitude that I developed from her. You do what you must do, what is there to talk about? Thank the Lord it isn't harder. Her second husband was a wonderful and animated pastor who had a sharp sense of humor and a warm engaging heart. I grew up around the both of them and he often engaged me as an equal at the breakfast table at my single digit age, asking me to explain political news stories and debating them with me. He returned to the Lord over a decade ago. Growing up, Grandma was a massive figure in my life. From a very young age we had a tradition of me going to Grandma's house in the summer to be "Grandma's Boy" and those are some of the most sublime memories of my life. We'd do anything my heart desired, my grandma excited for a chance to engage in a childhood that she missed with her own children. I don't feel sad at her passing. She was 96, ready to be back with the love of her life and with the Lord, and she had been declining for a long time. She was joined with the Lord in January and buried next to her loving husband today, February 1, 2025. Her wonderful presence will be missed.

📹So I got nerd-sniped into making a Trellix clone with @tan_stack React Query over the weekend. I think it works really well, but feel free to disagree. No framework, no backend - just the great msw, vite + RQ SPA. Nice side-effect: it works if you lose network connection 😱

A new route for African migrants to reach the U.S. has opened in recent months. As theses photos from #Colombia's main airport suggest. But dozens of African migrants are now getting stuck in Bogota's airport - like Tom Hanks in "The Terminal". Why is this happening? 👇🧵
