When the war is over and Ukraine have won, I won't be going home...Ukraine IS home for me now...hope some of you come over and join me for the reconstruction, or just to visit — will gladly show you around.

@Callsign_Santa What wonderful curiosity! I've never once looked into why trees are shaped the way they are. I've always wondered about this, but I've never pursued it before, and now I think I'll investigate. It sounds very interesting. Thank you so much!

I took this photo of "white" during my walk today. The cottony seed heads of Sonchus oleraceus (Common sowthistle) are so cute. 🤍💚

@Callsign_Santa I'm sorry for the late reply. I think this tree is may be Quercus variabilis. This tree naturally develops a rounded shape without any pruning or other maintenance. 🌳

It really is an unpleasant topic since both the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry publicly confirmed and the UA Embassy in Israel corroborated it to me privately that the grain has been unloaded in Haifa. I respectfully call on @IsraelMFA and @gidonsaar to heed Ukraine's immediate request that the grain be arrested. It is Ukraine's grain (that can be established) not Russia's, not the final buyer's whoever and wherever that is, this scandal is unnecessary and deeply sensitive for Ukrainians whom the Soviets tried starving thrice. "Rather Me Here Than Them." A New Zealand Student Who Left Uni to Fight for Ukraine. 🇺🇦🇳🇿 He was studying mechanical engineering in Auckland. Then he saw the photos. Meet "Kiwi" — Private, 47th Separate Mechanised Brigade, Ukrainian Armed Forces. Age: university student. Military experience before arriving: zero. He is from New Zealand. He chose to be here. "I didn't like what Russia was doing — bombing civilians, bombing houses. I didn't agree with any of it. So I dropped university and came here." No prior service. No weapons training. He found the 47th through an online friend he'd met while trying to learn Ukrainian on a language app. Showed up. Got trained for a month straight. Shooting. Walking. Lots of walking. He has now completed 10 combat missions. What surprised him most about the front line wasn't the cold, or the mud — though both made moving almost impossible. It wasn't seeing friends wounded, or the moment you realise: that could have been me. It was the drones. "Always drones. You hear one and you think — oh shit, what do I do? And then the training kicks in. You stay still. Hide behind a tree. That's the best thing you can do." On one mission, approaching a position with a friend, they were told two Russian soldiers needed to be eliminated. Kiwi was on the machine gun. His friend was point man. His friend went down — shot, screaming "I'm wounded, I'm wounded" — while still firing. Kiwi ran five metres forward into a ditch and opened up. Then he ran out of ammunition. So he grabbed the empty ammo box — and threw it at the Russians. "And then they started shooting back. That was the funniest part of my day." He still thinks about his family in Auckland. Talks to them when he can. Misses them. "Rather me here than them." To anyone in Australia or New Zealand watching this war from a distance — wondering if it's real, wondering if it matters, wondering what one person can do: There is already a Kiwi in the trenches. He dropped his engineering degree, learned some Ukrainian on an app, flew halfway around the world, and is now fighting in one of the most contested brigades on the eastern front. Not because anyone asked him to. Because he saw the photos. And couldn't look away. "I love Ukraine. I love this country. Keep fighting." — Private "Kiwi", 47th Brigade, Ukrainian Armed Forces. #Ukraine #NewZealand #Australia #47thBrigade #StandWithUkraine #UkraineWillWin #SlavaUkraini #ForeignVolunteers #UAF #ANZACSpirit

A private air defence unit in Kharkiv Oblast just shot down a jet-powered Shahed drone travelling at over 400 km/h. That is a first — and it signals a significant change in the air war over Ukraine. Russia has been scaling the use of jet-powered drones: faster, harder to track, harder to intercept than the standard propeller-driven Shahed variants that Ukraine’s air defence has spent two years learning to defeat. A drone moving at 400+ km/h compresses reaction time to seconds and demands faster, more precise intercept systems. Ukraine’s answer is not only military. It is structural. Under a President @ZelenskyyUa directive, Ukraine is building a private air defence network — civilian enterprise-based units integrated directly into the Air Force’s unified command architecture. Not a parallel system. A layer within the existing one. Current scale: ✔️19 enterprises actively forming private air defence groups. ✔️Units already operational in Kharkiv Oblast — one of the most heavily targeted regions in Ukraine. ✔️First confirmed intercept of a jet-powered drone — recorded by one of these groups. The strategic logic is deliberate: scale interception capacity rapidly without drawing additional load from frontline combat units. Private groups protect critical infrastructure — power stations, industrial facilities, logistics nodes — freeing military air defence assets for higher-priority threats. “The goal is to quickly scale capabilities without additional burden on combat units.” — Minister of Defence of Ukraine @FedorovMykhailo. Why this matters beyond Ukraine: This is institutional innovation under fire. Ukraine is not waiting for more resources — it is redistributing the defence burden across society, creating a distributed, resilient air defence architecture that is harder to saturate and harder to destroy. Russia is accelerating drone technology. Ukraine is accelerating the system that defeats it. The private sector is now part of that system. — Source: Ministry of Defence of Ukraine @DefenceU #Ukraine #AirDefence #Shahed #Kharkiv #UkraineWillWin #DroneWarfare #UAF #PrivateAirDefence

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation related to the entry of the vessel "ABINSK" into the port of Haifa, the State of Israel, and its transportation of a cargo of wheat, which, according to available information, originates from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. The Ukrainian side informed the Israeli partners in advance, in particular on March 23, about the vessel “ABINSK” and the possible origin of the cargo from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, and also emphasized the inadmissibility of import operations with such products. Assurances were received regarding an appropriate response. At the same time, it is concerning that despite the information provided and contacts between the parties, the vessel was allowed to unload at the port of Haifa on April 12-14. The Ukrainian side considers the vessel “ABINSK” as one that may be involved in the activities of the “shadow fleet”, which the aggressor state uses to illegally export, transport and sell stolen Ukrainian grain from the temporarily occupied territories and, ultimately, finance the war against Ukraine. Based on the materials of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine, including the decision of the Ukrainian court on the arrest of the vessel and cargo within the framework of the relevant criminal proceedings, the Ukrainian side immediately sent a request for international legal assistance to the State of Israel. The MFA of Ukraine expresses its hope for fruitful and constructive interaction between the competent authorities of Ukraine and the State of Israel, due consideration of the request and application of the relevant legal mechanisms within the framework of Israeli jurisdiction. The MFA of Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in the State of Israel are in constant contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel and the competent Israeli authorities in order to ensure appropriate steps. The MFA of Ukraine expects that the Israeli side will make a balanced and lawful decision and satisfy the relevant request of the Ukrainian side, in particular, arrest the specified grain batch aiming to prevent similar situations in the future. Ukraine is consistently working to hold accountable all those involved in the illegal export of Ukrainian resources from the temporarily occupied territories and calls on international partners to take a principled position in preventing such practices. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine will continue to take all necessary diplomatic and legal measures to protect the national interests of the state.
