Update to the bill exempting lawmakers from the gun storage mandate in cars: While the House DID approve that version, Senate requested (and got) a second conference committee. The bill that came out had lawmaker exemption removed, and that's what was ultimately approved.

A new legal Twitterquest has begun. And it involves this car. I imported a handsome 1999 Mercedes G320 last year, and I paid a 2.5% duty on it. Last month, I received a notice from CBP that, because Germany was subject to the tariff scheme when the car entered the US, I would be assessed an additional ~$4,500 in duties. Today, possible legal Christmas: SCOTUS ruled that Trump's "emergency" tariffs are not legal. I would hope, then, that this issue would simply go away for me, however, the Court was silent as to tariffs already paid. My tariff is in a weird place in that it has been "liquidated," i.e., assessed, but I am within the 120 day window to appeal that decision. Rather than take my chances on some court eventually figuring it out, I'm starting the process of appealing the tariff today. I'll post the step(s) below. I am an attorney licensed in 4 states and 3 fed circuits, but I have no experience whatsoever with this process and I still have a lil chuckle to myself when someone says "duty" like "doodie," so I'm not holding out much hope for a successful appeal. But I'll keep everyone posted. Getting started as soon as I send tweet.

One thing you can say for sure about Trump is that he does not give a shit about polling. The tariffs are deeply unpopular but he won't drop this folly. First of all, some of you need to check yourselves at the door and understand that some religious holidays overlap with each other and begin around the same time, THEREFORE, multiple posts are warranted to make sure all religions and cultures in Greensboro are acknowledged. Posting one at a time allows individuals to see that their religious holiday is acknowledged and not "mashed in or lumped in with others." (This comment is from the social media manager and not the department as a whole because some people need to back up a little and, what's the polite phrase, "hold their horses.") We respect everyone's religious beliefs, and showing that in individual posts is the right thing to do. Period.
