When I started this project, my baby was a baby and most people hadn’t heard of an N95. Today, I have a second grader, the world is a different place, and this labor of love is finally out in the world!! sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

Help save the Dog Aging Project. Despite being one of the most influential, productive and impactful NIH supported projects over the past 5 years, the National Institute on Aging has inexplicably chosen to withdraw support for the Dog Aging Project. For now, I’m won't get into the details of the process or my personal feelings about it, as the important thing is to ensure the Dog Aging Project doesn’t end. If you believe that the Dog Aging Project has value and should continue, I have three requests of you: (1) Please consider signing the petition to the NIH Director here: actionnetwork.org/petitions/supp… (2) Please consider sending an email to your elected representatives here: actionnetwork.org/letters/suppor… (3) Please share this message with your network as broadly as you can Thank you!!!

For you deliberate cold exposure skeptics and devotees alike, this is an interesting new study on 1X per week cold immersion & 5X per week cold showers on fat loss and various mood related parameters. Still, avoid it after hypertrophy training. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36599485/

Layperson write-up of our recent study on the effects of localized inflammation on blood production
Columbia Medicine@ColumbiaMed

#ColumbiaMed researchers found that an anti-inflammatory drug can turn back time in mice & reverse some of the effects of age on the system involved in the creation of blood. The researchers are now trying to learn how this finding applies to humans. 👉 columbiamed.link/40tSPUo

All the evidence from human studies seems to indicate that TRE is no better than other forms of caloric restriction for weight control or other metabolic benefits (insulin resensitization), and may actually be worse in some respects

Learned today that a nicotinamide riboside supplement maker (not Chromadex) is targeting authors of a recent paper suggesting possible increased cancer risk from NR. This is bad news for science 1/6

In a new paper in Nature, scientists looked at candidates for reversing dysregulated gene expression in Alzheimer's disease and guess what outperformed all tested drugs? Exercise. Why isn't this front page news?

Rather than saying I study “aging”, I think I’ll start saying I study “system integrity” of the organism/cell. In my mind, it’s what aging undermines. It also makes more sense to talk about restoring system integrity vs. reversing aging.

In new @ScienceMagazine, there are papers from 4 groups describing (super cool) nuclear pore structures. I'd like to use this opportunity to state the obvious - that science is a rich get richer sport. 1/4
