Like I said I disapprove of her individually, and a bad pick for GG, (I had a whole list of better picks in mind, who were bilingual) getting nominated to the SCC (and other posts) are still accomplishments that took time and effort to get into.
And as a white male veteran of the CAF I have a personal grievance with her. (She doesn’t/didn’t like us) all that much.
However, I can separate the accomplishments from her opinions; to which we are all entitled to.
English

@Carlone_only @waterloo_mr @JohnRalstonSaul She was a disaster on the SCC, a complete lightweight who dissented on almost everything
English

Fantastic that Louise Arbour will be the new Governor General. She is one of the great Canadians of our time – and in so many ways.

It’s already impossible, after the 1995 referendum in Quebec the Federal government made it necessary for a “clear majority” of voters to be in favour of and 7/10 provinces to ratify any province wishing to leave confederation.
Neither Quebec nor Alberta will ever get those yet to be decided numbers.
The one sunny side is that Quebec (most seperatists here believe that we could make do without transfer payments) would back Alberta in that 7/10 and vice versa.
English

@wealthmoose I don't think he suggested it. It sounded like he used that venue to announce it's coming, and you will enjoy it. It'll also make it harder, if not impossible, for Alberta to go their own way.
English

Here’s the issue,
1. they didn’t poll every single Canadian, they poll from a curated list of people who signed up and from that list they choose a portion of those people.
2. the CPC has a decided vote of 35% that leaves the LPC leader with 65% of the polled population to receive approval from, substract the other parties and he’s at 45-50% tops considering the NDP is still reorganizing.
3. Incumbents always have an advantage because they are actually in power and there is no other comparison to create a baseline.
4. It’s the government that finances the pollsters
5 . The language in a polling is usually as such:
“On a scale of one 1-5 how would you rate the PMs performance on a number of issues:
1. Extremely unfavorably
2. Unfavorably
3. Somewhat favorably
4. Favorably
5 extremely favorably.
Now the 35% dedicated liberal base will rate 5 throughout which carries a higher weighted average than a 1, next you’ll have the NDP and BQ voters which on social issues will rate between 3-5
It’s the 20% undecided voters that tend to be the most honest but they rarely make up the majority of polled individuals.
Counter intuitively the CPC usually polls well on Economic and Justice topics which generally aren’t a major issue for Canadians and aren’t featured prominently on polls.
And suddenly you have a PM with 60% approval ratings!
Huzzah!🎉
English

If you're wondering why the CPC and RW Influencers are working so hard to attack Carney lately it's because of this.
He has the highest approval rating of any PM in Canadian History.
Canadians love him. They're rejecting this brokenist bullshit and the misinformation campaigns.
Stephano🍁Barberis@HelloStephano
PM Carney’s approval rating has hit 68%, beating PM Chretien’s 66% approval in 1994. This is the highest for any PM in Canadian history. Notice how it’s always a Liberal PM that’s beloved like this and never Con ones? Poll: @spark_advocacy
English

@PattyPhayes @CathyPiecat @Smil3yAngel Oh it was much worse in Italy under Berlusconi, he quite literally owed upwards of 80% of all media in the country.
Only heard criticism of him if you watched foreign media in a language other than Italian
English

@CathyPiecat @Smil3yAngel Liberals control the media! They are the best and leading in the polls … just ask them!!
English

@waterloo_mr @JohnRalstonSaul Caveat. I do not like this choice for a number of reasons, but she did become a Supreme Court justice amongst a number of other impressive things
English

@JohnRalstonSaul When is the government going to stop rewarding menopausal woman like this who have accomplished nothing in life other than what a man has given her
English

@TheGunBlog @CanadasNFA Haven’t received that message yet…
English

Carney should state what ‘leverage’ Canada has in trade talks, Poilievre says ctvnews.ca/politics/artic…
English

@Gusinalberta That’s obtuse and disingenuous and if you know it.
There is a difference between criticizing the state of things as to seek to improve it vs denigrating the country.
English

@OntarioHilbilly @Chris7373737373 @gary_srp @liberal_party I just got a different rifle same caliber…
English

For 6 years today the Liberals have kept my hunting rifle locked up.
A rifle I used for decades to protect my livestock suddenly so dangerous that I had to stop using it, so the Liberals could sucker and scare voters.

The gun ban should have blanket-banned all semi automatic rifles

@GlobalBoiling @annwmac @Hedzer15 @Franktmcveety I wish I could lease out my house for 1,500 times the price I paid for it
English

@annwmac @Hedzer15 @Franktmcveety Are you really this fucking stupid?
They lease it from the province for 13 grand and lease it to the feds for 20 million/year.
And the fed's partner is the utterly corrupt Ukraine space Agency who have a massive record of fraud and corruption.
English

@cstewartyqr @gator_gum @myabradshaw78 You know what blue chips are right?
Besides I never brought up the NYC HQ or the corporate office in the Cayman Islands.
English

@Carlone_only @gator_gum @myabradshaw78 Not true, actually. He still has indirect holdings in Brookfield, which you loons claim is an American company.
English

@UnitedCanucks26 @criticallymade Freedom of expression, not freedom of speech, significant difference.
English

@criticallymade Thanks, I appreciate the heads up. In Canada there is freedom of speech, no one is getting arrested for this post unless someone makes a violent threat in the comments.
English

Can we get #boycott Post Malone trending!
He agreed to a comment saying “Canada is fking falling apart”.
Reminder: Poilievre made a podcast with Joe Rogan.
Canadians know Canada is amazing. 🇨🇦

All, or pass legislation that would allow them to buy them back at the price they sold them (if higher) once they leave office tax free.
The problem with the PM is he’s a walking conflict of interest. Any decision he takes will affect his portfolio, most of his investments are in the US. It creates a problem when he has to negotiate, say, a tariff war when levying counter tariffs on certain imports hurts your investments.
PP liquidated all his US stocks and reinvested in Canadian Blue Chips. I’m certain the PM could as well.
English

@myabradshaw78 Should all politicians have to liquidate all their stocks, or just him?
English

@funtomvids Hasn’t Carney billed you 500,000$ + on in flight catering?
English

@yvonne75898335 @funtomvids So the person not responsible for increased food bank use is guilty because he’s visiting and thanking hard working volunteers?
English

@funtomvids How does one think that a photo opt at a FOOD BANK of all places Is a good look for any government representative ?
They are a dark stain on on the record of all politicians.
Poverty is their doing , a product of bad governance!
English

@Computron200000 @GadSaad It’s over 1/4 of a trillion $ federally, they aren’t letting go of that, ever. Let alone Quebec or the other provinces
English

@GadSaad If we cut the income tax to zero, we will all find ourselves much wealthier at the end of the year
Yes, I say the Treasury will wind up with more money, not less
English

It's 33% for federal and Quebec is 25.75%. You then add nearly 15% sales tax (provincial and federal) + property tax, school tax, carbon tax, etc. You end up between 65-70% of your income taken. You think that it is false outrage to not want the government to take 70% of your income?
🇨🇦 dronefishing 🇨🇦 🇺🇦@dronefishing1
@GadSaad @MarkJCarney You whiney bitches can’t help but cry at every single moment Top federal tax rate in Canada is 33%, that’s after nearly a quarter million in annual income so spare us your bullshit, false outrage
English

The governor of the bank of Canada does not set fiscal policy.
They monitor the level of inflation (affected by the fiscal policies of the government in power and global events) set the interest rates nationally and increases or decreases the amount of money in circulation (at the request of the government).
In short they pull the levers, but the government is deciding the direction.
And if the economy’s performance is solely due to the Governor of the BoC why isn’t anyone calling for the head of the current one?
English

@JasonRadtke5 @realretroguy Conservatives, except the government doesn't control the Bank of Canada. 2 separate entities at arms length. Carney was always a believer in a strong dollar. The slow decline came after he left in 2013 and the dollar was reduced to $0.76 in Harper's final year in office.
