General Stanley A. McChrystal was in charge of U.S. forces in Afghanistan on October 3, 2009.
U.S Military Clips@usmilihist

This footage taken by the Taliban is of the Battle of Kamdesh on October 3, 2009 as depicted in the 2020 film “The Outpost.” On this day, 300 Tailban fighters attacked Combat Outpost (COP) Keating at 6:00am from all sides. You can see on the video the moment the attack is ordered along with American soldiers moving to cover throughout the base. Also visible is an A-10 Thunderbolt II and an AH-64 Apache as they join the fight to stop the attack on the base. Ultimately, the Taliban fighters will enter COP Keating 48 minutes into the battle, burning down numerous buildings as the small American force collapses to a small perimeter within the base. From there, they push teams outwards to repel the Taliban attackers with the help of concentrated air power throughout the day. The final Taliban fighters leave the base around 5:10pm and the battle is over by 7pm. Of note to the end of the footage you can see the cowardly Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers as they abandon their posts and quickly allow the Taliban to enter the outpost. No ANA soldiers held their ground against the Taliban and they even stole property from Americans during and after the battle. Ultimately, 8 Americans are killed and 27 are wounded. Roughly 150-200 Taliban fighters are killed or wounded. Two Americans, SSGT Clinton Romesha and SSGT Ty Carter are awarded the Medal of Honor for their actions during the battle. COP Keating is quickly closed by the Americans and abandoned hastily.

Honored to join the first Congressional Delegation to Venezuela in a decade. What was clear from our meetings with people at all levels of government and business was this — President Trump’s decision to remove Maduro set this country on a trajectory to be a key ally of the United States, and an energy powerhouse to benefit us all. We also toured devastating earthquake damage — proud of the part America is playing to save so many.

I love you all with a ferocity that borders on the lethal. Your thoughts, your prayers, your exquisitely timed messages did not merely comfort me on Friday...they held the line. They kept the chaos from devouring what little calm I had left. I want to speak with every last one of you. You are not friends. You are family. And I miss the living fuck out of you. I am currently dead on my ass...sleepless Thursday night, five hours under anesthesia, the preliminary excavation of my chest complete. The verdict is precise and, in its own dark way, merciful: valves clear, heart clear, arteries clear. Both specialists looked… pleased. Which means it was Taka that tore the wall to 39 mm. That is the diagnosis. That is the truth. And either way, they will still crack my chest open to repair what she ripped. However I won't know that officially until next week when the imaging comes back. I just know both the surgeon and the cardiologist were seemingly pleased with what they could see. Right now I am doing exactly nothing...resting in the rare, hard-won silence, letting the calm settle like ash after a controlled burn. You are warriors. You have never once abandoned the field. And hear this without ambiguity: my beliefs do not create a no-fly zone around your prayers. Speak them. Offer them. Everything that brings comfort is welcome here. Especially now, when the knowledge that my sternum will be split sits heavy and absolute. I love you more than language can carry without bleeding. I am simply here...still, quiet, grateful, and lethal in my refusal to break. ❤️‍🩹🖤💋

There’s something so refreshing about Iron Will’s authentic affection for others. And each @Disneyland Cast Member that we interacted with seemed to sense that, and responded in kind and kindly. First, Iron Will greeted Princess Tiana, and then she mentioned turning the Prince into a frog. Which Iron Will took quite literally. And ran with… And even in costume, in ridiculous heat, the Prince didn’t hesitate to hop along with the wee little man. #IronWill #TeamIronWill #DownSyndromeAdvocacy

Honolulu International Airport. The only elevator serving this 8-story parking garage is out of service. Then you read today’s news that the administrator of the Hawaiʻi DOT Airports Division has been indicted on federal charges including conspiracy, bribery, false statements, and obstruction of justice. It’s hard not to wonder how much Hawaiʻi’s airport infrastructure has suffered under this kind of leadership. Maybe this is exactly why travelers are left dealing with broken elevators, aging facilities, and chronic maintenance issues. Hawaiʻi deserves better.

🚨 Beijing’s Most Dangerous Weapon in the Taiwan Strait Is Routine The most dangerous Chinese military drill is not necessarily the largest. It is the one Beijing wants the world to stop noticing. On July 23, China’s Zhangzhou Maritime Safety Administration abruptly announced live-fire activity in the western Taiwan Strait for July 23 and 24, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Navigation exclusion zones were imposed near Dongshan Island in Fujian. Beijing disclosed no participating units, weapons or exercise scenario. That opacity is not a minor detail. It is part of the pressure. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) repeatedly wraps coercion in administrative language: a “navigation warning,” an unnamed “exercise,” a supposedly routine closure. The packaging sounds technical and temporary. The political message is unmistakable. Beijing can disrupt waters around Taiwan, raise the risk to civilian navigation and force Taipei to react whenever it chooses. The location did not pose an immediate direct threat to Taiwan proper, according to reporting cited in the source material. That does not make the action harmless. It makes the method more insidious. By keeping each incident below the threshold of open conflict, the CCP tests responses, exhausts attention and trains foreign governments and markets to treat military intimidation as background noise. This is normalization warfare. Yesterday’s provocation becomes today’s routine; today’s routine can provide cover for tomorrow’s escalation. The strategic danger is not that every drill will become an attack. It is that repeated drills may erode the warning value of the one that does. Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs correctly condemned the action as a military provocation that heightened tensions and endangered regional aviation and shipping. Other democracies should do the same. They should track every exclusion zone, demand transparency, coordinate maritime awareness and refuse Beijing’s preferred vocabulary of “routine activity.” The CCP is not merely firing rounds near the Taiwan Strait. It is testing whether the world can still recognize coercion after seeing it too many times. Aric Chen@aricchen

Taiwan Is Testing a Digital Crisis Because Beijing Keeps Threatening War For thirty minutes, millions in Taiwan will experience a controlled glimpse of Chinese Communist Party coercion when mobile data nearly disappears. During the 42nd Han Kuang exercises, scheduled for August 5–14, Taiwan will slow mobile internet service across 14 northern and central cities and counties. Tests will occur in central Taiwan on August 10 and northern Taiwan on August 13. Voice calls and text messages will remain available, while data-heavy services will be severely restricted. This is not paranoia. It is preparation imposed on a democracy by an authoritarian regime that intensifies military pressure, claims Taiwan as its territory, and refuses to rule out force. Beijing calls its ambition “reunification.” In reality, it is coercion aimed at forcing a free society to surrender its future. Taiwan is testing whether families, emergency responders, and government agencies can communicate when bandwidth collapses. The world should pay attention. Mobile networks, undersea cables, and emergency systems can become battlefields before the first missile is fired. Taiwan is preparing because Beijing keeps threatening. Democratic nations must stop treating that threat as distant, theoretical, or somebody else’s problem. Silence and complacency do not preserve peace. They invite the bully to push harder. BZ @TimSheehyMT and thank you @POTUS and yes, you have an entire team of veteran warriors that support this effort to eliminate these Iranian IRGC lunatics and will help you in any way you ask of us.
Ryan Saavedra@RyanSaavedra

Sen. Tim Sheehy (R-MT) delivers an incredibly powerful speech about Iran. Watch every second of this. "Yesterday we saw the president of the United States and many others at Dover Air Force Base presiding over a ceremony that is very sacred to those of us who served, and that is a dignified return of remains from the war zone. That process happens beginning in the war zone through Dover to the hometown of our fallen heroes. I participated in many of those ceremonies myself to include carrying friends of mine off the plane. One of those is on this bracelet. He was cut in half by an Iranian EFP. This regime that we are fighting does not care about our partisan politics. They don't care who you voted for, who you pray to, or where you live. They want to kill all of us. And they don't just say it, they actually do it, and they've been doing it for forty-seven years. This is a war of choice. The Democrats are correct. It's a war of choice that was begun by a radical lunatic band of terrorists that took over a beautiful nation 47 years ago, took it over with brutality, force, and savagery. And the second they took it over, they didn't free their people, they didn't unleash the largest oil reserves in the world to build schools and bridges. They took it over to murder their own people and to spread their disgusting ideology across the world, and that is exactly what they have been doing. They don't just say it and talk about it. You don't have to believe what they say. You can simply watch what they've done. They have attacked families, women, children, innocent people. They don't just attack them and kill them, they rape them. They skin them alive on camera. They celebrate it. They honor those people who do disgusting things that we would put in jail for the rest of their lives in this country, and they do it for fun, and they pay them money to do it, and they're heroes to that nation. They've done it to friends of mine. They've done it to families who've been in this chamber. And the fact that we sit here and listen to elected officials of this country defend these lunatics who want us all dead. They want all of you dead. They want all of us dead. They don't want us to disappear with a snap of a finger. They want us to be raped, burned alive, and cut into pieces. Watch the video from October 7. That's what they want to happen from Maine to San Diego, from Seattle to Miami. They want this country turned into a burning husk of its former self, and you don't have to theorize that. That's what they do. From the 1983 barracks bombing, where 280 Marines were vaporized in a morning, from USS Cole to the Achille Lauro, to every terrorist attack, from the Houthis, Hezbollah, Hamas. These are not humanitarian freedom organizations. They are death-dealing cults, and they want all of us to die brutal deaths. William Buckley was abducted in 1985, an American military officer. He was skinned alive on camera by the Iranians. American prisoners of war who were captured. They were never called prisoners of war because they were captured by lunatic terrorists, so they were not subject to the Geneva Convention. They were captured and murdered, power drills through their brains. This is in Iraq. These are families that have dealt with this, and they've never gotten a single dime. These families have never gotten restitution, and not a single president has ever stood up to them. Love Donald Trump or hate him, love his policies, hate ICE, love ICE, whatever. There's never been a single president who has stood up to Iran and hit back. For 47 years, our troops and our families have been absorbing attack after attack after attack all over the world. And their radical ideology does not stop at the Persian Gulf. It doesn't stop at Tel Aviv. They want to do this everywhere. It's a global radical ideology, and we've been fighting it for half a century. We didn't start this war. We did not, but we will finish it. And forever wars are not popular with anybody these days. Both sides of the love to attack our forever wars. And I can promise you, being someone overseas wearing the uniform, when you're fighting for your country, you don't care what party's in office, but you're fighting to defend your country, and you turn on the news and see your elected officials stabbing you in the back, telling you that you're failing, that you've failed every goal of the war, is what I just heard. Last time I checked, we've wiped these bastards out. An occasional missile strike and boats in the straits, that's not military strength. Those are the flailings of a failing empire. Those are the flailings of a nation in collapse because they deserve it. So I encourage our colleagues on both sides of the aisle, whatever's politically convenient, whatever plays well on Twitter or Facebook, think about the people who are deployed right now, standing on that wall with a loaded weapon, who have volunteered to defend our country and our way of life. Because they are there defending us in a just war, because we did not start a war with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. They started it with us 47 years ago, and their attacks have gone unanswered for half a century. It's time to fix this problem and make sure another generations of Americans does not have to fight this murderous, savage adversary."

A Su-57 down near Moscow, and the friendly-fire claim came from Russia's own side A Russian military jet, reported to be a Su-57, Russia's only operational stealth fighter, crashed in the Odintsovo district of Moscow Oblast on 23 July. The pilot ejected and survived, and officials reported no casualties on the ground. The Defense Ministry called it a combat-trainer that crashed on takeoff and confirmed neither the type nor the cause. But Russian milblogger Romanov pointed instead at the crew of a Moscow air-defense group, asking whether it had shot down one of the country's scarcest jets. 🔗 euromaidanpress.com/2026/07/23/rus…

I am alive. That is the only announcement that matters today. I will not be on much, if at all. Tomorrow morning they put me under...valves, arteries, the full structural interrogation of a heart that has refused to quit for forty-seven years. Today is preparation. Today is the quiet, deliberate stillness before the blade. I am in my Zen zone, and I will not be pulled out of it for noise, for performance, or for any endless demand. I am a warrior first. The rest is secondary. I love you. Hard. Unapologetic. Without the soft edges the world prefers. That love is not diminished by silence; it is protected by it. When I am home and the anesthesia fog has burned off, I will speak. Until then, hold the line. Do not mistake absence for absence of force. I am still here... And I will return with the same lethal precision I have always carried and much more clarity on what I'm facing. - Grey
