@cbsdbieks@DaileySuzanne@mres I agree about hands-on learners being x students. They can kind of run with a situation or direction without much explanation. They're more comfortable getting their hands into projects and exploring! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@mres I see “hands on” learners as x students. These learners manipulate the environment to support their understanding and they know they need this opportunity. #cbsdpd
A twist for our second to last CB Slow Chat prompt. In the spirit of @mres’s value on student choice & autonomy, respond to ONE of these prompts to process some challenging & worthwhile ideas from Lifelong Kindergarten (and yes, of course it’s OK to respond to both!) #cbsdpd
@MrsGriffinCSE@DaileySuzanne@mres I completely agree about some students being scared of not having directions. Some of the most interesting times in my classroom is when I give students a group project or fun activity without many boundaries. They feel so uncomfortable at first, but then they take off! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@mres A1 I so agree with the idea of Student X. I see the kids afraid to build legos w/o instructions. I would love to see students interacting, especially in primary grades, using nature and authentic tools. There is a lot to be said for adapting some of the Montessori model. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@mres Overall, I see a lot of students wanting to do well in school and answering cut and dry questions, but I try to foster the desire to explore, create, and question. When this happens, it's great to see students evolve into critical thinkers! X students are the future! :) #cbsdpd
@CBSuzShannon@DaileySuzanne I love this thought! I've often thought about meaningful buddy meet-ups vs. just plain fun meetings! My first graders love learning from older students, and I'm interested in learning more about how other teachers go about buddy classes.
@DaileySuzanne I am definitely interested in learning how to best structure time with my ‘buddy class’ this year. My third graders love it and look forward to it, but I’d be interested in learning how to really make the most of that time to foster cross grade level connections. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne I hope to bring more Brain Breaks into my classroom. Time to wiggle and take a mental break will only make learning in 1st grade that more fun!#CBSDPD
@DaileySuzanne I like "making time to celebrate student learning publicly or privately." I always use Seesaw to post pictures to home, but maybe this year I could take it further and have students create videos explaining their test or assignment they did well on to their parents. #cbsdpd
@CBmisswalls@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk Totally agree that it wouldn't work with every subject, and certainly not every student. I think I would have to start introducing this model and process on a small scale first. That way, students wouldn't become too frustrated right from the start. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk I LOVE the idea of this approach vs. the "teach modeling-Ss following" approach. By giving the Ss more "voice and choice" in directing their learning, it makes it a more personalized (and powerful) learning experience. I'd love to try doing "passion projects" this year. #cbsdpd
@CB_JFlanagan@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk@MIF4Educators Love the idea of using this model for word problems in math. They can be a frustrating concept for some students, but flipping the process to "you do, we do, I do", gives students time to work through the struggle, and eventually feel accomplished when they get it! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk As we begin our journey teaching @MIF4Educators I see this directly relating to the productive struggle in solving word problems. Allowing students time to grapple with information independently builds problem solvers & provides greater ownership of their learning #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne@timdwalk The thought of switching "I do, we do, you do" to completely reverse it sounds scary at first, but after some thought, it would be great for encouraging productive struggle and growth mindset. I think it would be great for hands-on lessons and introducing math concepts! #cbsdpd
@Kutz3rdGrade@DaileySuzanne And don't forget about all the hugs you give to your former students as they walk by (it doesn't go unnoticed). When your current students see older kids getting excited about you and missing you, it makes them feel so lucky to have you as a teacher! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Move-up Day is very telling...as Ts are unveiled...I would hope the Ss feel like I do. I GET to have them in my classroom & they GET to have me as their teacher! I stand at my door and greet then every single day. It’s the best way to start the morning! #cbsdpd
@CBmisswalls@DaileySuzanne Such a good idea to not only get other students excited about your room, but also get your own students amped up that they get to be in there every day! Sometimes having young kids hear positive things coming from their peers means more than coming from us as teachers. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Such a good quote to reflect on. I hope students feel like they GET to be in my room. It's easy to get the school-lovers to love being there, but I hope I can put more emphasis on the other kiddos who need help loving school a bit more, so everyone is happy and excited! #cbsdpd
@Kutz3rdGrade@DaileySuzanne Love the incorporation of curriculum and class lessons into empowerment and class meetings by having students use character traits for each other. (personal p.s... so strange to see "Kutz THIRD grade" next to your name!) 🙂 #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne Empowerment...through class meetings! Ss are able to get to know each other better as they build stronger relationships with their peers. My kids especially ❤️ Positive Thought Tuesday where they choose a character trait/example to describe their classmates! Heartwarming! #cbsdpd
@CBKDenton I chose environment as well, and I agree that it is something you can really work on fostering and creating over the summer through some research and twitter scrolling to see how other teachers are creating a positive environment in their classrooms! #cbsdpd
All four ingredients of engagement in The Wild Card are important, I will focus my energy this summer on environment. I am moving grade levels and I am already working on trying to create a space that is appealing to the third graders that I will be teaching. #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne While all 4 "E's" are important, the area I would like to emphasize this year in my classroom is environment. I think in CB, we're making a big push for creating positive learning environments, and I hope to take mine even further this year! #cbsdpd
@DaileySuzanne A1- Sue Bombowski at Jamison, she is an Awesomizer! Sue creates a team atmosphere, collaborates with her IA’s and takes time to get to know us on a personal level #cbsdpd
