Nuclear running on empty 1 of 4 With at least 7 GEN IV #nuclear reactors in recent years having massive cost & time overruns, no wonder #SMRs are being pushed. Just 1 SMR model has passed design with the new tech design/ demo/ full-scale/ commercially available process. (ctd)

@RyanOdo83671395 @EVCurveFuturist With your great concern about slave mining, I guess you don't use ICE vehicles (fuel refined with Cobalt catalyst), or mobile phones (Cobalt in parts), or Tires, Airbags, blue paints, hip and knee replacements, tools, magnets, speakers, etc Very ethical of you.

@RyanOdo83671395 @EVCurveFuturist Lion batteries of which most EVs use now do not use any Cobalt at all. That includes most Tesla and most BYD vehicles. Of the companies that use NMC or NCA batteries, at least Tesla has a country-of-origin Cobalt program to guarantee that none comes such countries.

Petrol: $2.60/L → $20.80 per 100km My #EV: Solar → ~$0 Home (18c) → $2.48 Supercharger → $8.27 Even my worst case is still cheaper than their average. No servicing. No oil. Clean. Quiet. Fast. Reliable. This isn’t efficiency… it’s a system exit. ⚡🔋 #Bettrification

Essentially free fuel if you have an #EV. before commenting about rich EV buyers, free energy period applies to NON ev owners, load shift, work from home? many ways to benefit, change hot water heater settings, set air con to cool/heat in that time solarquotes.com.au/blog/victoria-…

@SailWarshawski @renew_economy That's great and I am sure it won't scram in an earthquake or even if if an Iranian Shahed drone crashes into it. In the meantime: Olkiluoto-3 18 years; Flamanville-3 17 yrs; Hinkley Pt C 13-16 yrs (estimated); Vogtle 3 & 4 11 yrs; Excluding preliminary planning of course.

@Killboxer @renewablesmiffy And China has installed more RE and storage than the rest of the world combined every year for the last 3 years in a row . This has reduced coal burner use to around 53%. They are certainly not perfect but the difference is striking according to occasional visitors.

I was told over the last twenty years the GB grid couldn’t cope with Renewables above 10%, then 20%, then 30%, 40% and 50%. Shouldn’t it have collapsed by now?

@benainsworth22 @ausstockchick Depending on your needs you may be able to get away with a new Atto 1 only around $26K. More than a few others below $40K as well. You can also get bargains second hand (batteries last a lot longer than most think) assuming the remaining range suits.

@silver19623 @sydney_ev It depends on many factors, but assume avg driving your Camry vs Model 3 ($55K new) in 2026 $ over 10 yrs: ICE refueling $46K to $50K, maintenance $8K to $10K EV charging $4K to $8K / $250 to $1K for those with solar, maintenance $5K to $6K So maybe 10 yrs barring more ME war

Cheapest EVs now in Oz about $24K, which compares particularly well with the cost of the petrol ones, on the money you save on fuel - and maintenance. Often discounted is that there is bugger-all maintenance costs, 'cos there aint 1000 things that can go wrong.

@Peter_Fitz BUT...when they go wrong, they go spectacularly wrong. Wait til the diesel generator cost starts raising the electron pump price. Will there even be diesel to run the generators? When that $24k car battery goes, it will be a throw away.

@happydays00769 @EVCurveFuturist SA has had the highest retail cost of electricity for a long time (since at least the 1990s). A combination of low population, long distances, very hot days, and high gas use (both base-load and peaking). RE + storage has made a big difference. The NSW interconnector will help.

@EVCurveFuturist SA is 1/4 of the other states in energy usage given it has limited industrial base and now has the highest cost of electricity in Australia. It’s wishful thinking that prices will actually come down. The reality is not playing out as well as it was sold and people can see that.

Power bills officially dropping across Australia from July 2025. Proof the answer isn’t drill baby drill — it’s charge baby charge. More renewables = cheaper energy. Fossil fuels? Volatile, expensive, still rising. The system isn’t broken. It’s transitioning. #Bettrification theguardian.com/australia-news…

The most obvious fix is to allow renewables to participate in voltage control. That was illegal in Spain at the time of the blackout. This alone would have prevented this incident. The grid code is updated now. solarpowereurope.org/press-releases…

We can thank China for its MASSIVE #EV rollout, 50% of all cars sold in China are EV, that many Evs means far less pressure on Oil products.. we would be paying much more if it wasn't for mass Ev adoption.

on the road to Damascus or is it the Stuart Hwy
@CejSe @ProfRayWills @FSS_Au has SA always had a big grid for a low population? funny how it used to be cheapest mainland power for much of its history ?
on the road to Damascus or is it the Stuart Hwy@pm_mcd

@OskaArcher @tonyannett “oh, but SA always had high electricity prices due to large grid for sparsely distributed population” except for when it was the cheapest retail power on mainland you can learn a lot about renewables from SA

AER now explicitly validating what our @FSS_Au work's been demonstrating for several years: more wind and more batteries pushing wholesale prices down and opening the door to actual bill cuts, even with fossil‑fuel risks still in the system reneweconomy.com.au/the-rise-of-ba…

#AER flags cut in cost of electricity for households and businesses across the #NEM, as wholesale power prices get the benefit of more wind and big batteries.. reneweconomy.com.au/more-wind-and-…

China isn’t just installing renewables at scale — they’re writing the playbook for the post-fossil era. Build fast. Electrify everything. Dominate supply chains. This isn’t transition… it’s system redesign. The blueprint is being drawn in real time. Goggle it! #Bettrification
Jesse Peltan@JessePeltan

If you’re not going to go to China, just open up Google Earth. China is building more solar and wind than the rest of the world *combined* and you can literally see it from space.
