I’m a youngish/middle aged farmer, my parents were farmers. I’ve never lived through a period like this, where we have a gov who hates us so much and wants to destroy our farming communities and businesses. They despise us and want to break up everything we’ve built. Madness

🚨 Farm Tax Maths 🚨 There's lots of debate about how many farms will be affected by the APR changes. DEFRA say 66%. The Treasury say 28% or 500 a year (which is still very high). But the OBR, and thus Reeves, expect £560m a year. How can only 500 farms contributed £560m?

@jonithompson @KirstieMAllsopp It’s not just a home, it’s a livelihood that without the house or land you can’t produce food for the nation. Farmers still pay tax every year, just like everyone who works hard. But IHT bill cannot be saved for because the profits aren’t there to pay it.

@KirstieMAllsopp I would like to keep my childhood home when my parents die as well, but will have to sell due to tax.. so why different for them? They don’t farm the land it is their parents home just like mine.. pay the tax like everyone else!!

I’ve spent today with a dentist and a nutritionist, both from farming families, both who believe that this new tax on farms is fundamentally wrong, they know the damage it will do to family farms, and they do believe that those who remain on the land should be supported to do so

If anyone would like to experience the feather bedded benefits of farming can I suggest going to work this week & wait to be paid sometime in 2026, whilst taking the risk that the payment might be less than the cost of going to work!

Another one for the wall of shame. This is the reason there were no eggs left yesterday for anyone else. They thought by parking on the road and covering their faces they would get away scot free. Wish i had a video of the shock on their faces when we showed up to their lovely house within 30mins. Not all eggs and potatoes were recovered but they had to pay. These people walk amongst you.
