Barney Frank and I came to Congress together. The minute he got here, he was a fountain of energy, intelligence, morality, and creativity – all aimed at making the world a better place. He never stopped and has had an amazing impact. We remained good friends after he retired, and we would continually discuss his plethora of incredible ideas to improve this country and this world that he loved so much. I will miss him as a friend, and the world will miss him as a great humanitarian leader.

Ilhan Omar. Shri Thanedar. Pramila Jayapal. All born in foreign countries, none were citizens by birth. All sitting in the United States Congress. All making clear every single day their loyalty is not to America. We just introduced a long overdue joint resolution proposing a constitutional amendment to require Members of Congress, federal judges, and Senate-confirmed officers to be natural born citizens. This is the very same standard the President and Vice President are already required to meet. The people writing America's laws, confirming America's judges, and representing America on the world stage should have one loyalty: America. Not any other country. For too long we have allowed foreign born members to hold seats in this government while making clear they are America last, not America first. We see it every day. This constitutional amendment will put an end to it.

@gmk_julie My Dad, after learning I had hired a cleaning service in prep for their arrival, said I needed to hire them again after a few days. His pitch for coming was that they would clean for me. Then he went to Disneyland to take pics of him with D characters for his other grandchildren.

@gmk_julie So wonderful, I am happy for you, as I experienced a completely different situation. So I know how loving yours was. My folks came "to help", but were a burden. My mother asked me what I wanted to eat, and I begged for vegetable soup. So she made me chicken breasts. 1/2

My in-laws were always first in to see our babies at the hospital, and I welcomed that. My own parents never even came. That’s cuz as soon as I was in labor they were at our house making it spic and span for baby’s homecoming. My dad watched the other kids and did yard work while my mom cleaned and grocery shopped and fixed my husband's favorite foods. She would get my bed all freshly ready with a vase of flowers next to it and clean jammies laid out and a tea tray ready to go. They were there to welcome the baby home and then my mom would stay for a week making sure I wanted for absolutely nothing. Their absence at the hospital was always the best present.

Kimmel’s hateful and violent rhetoric is intended to divide our country. His monologue about my family isn’t comedy- his words are corrosive and deepens the political sickness within America. People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate. A coward, Kimmel hides behind ABC because he knows the network will keep running cover to protect him. Enough is enough.  It is time for ABC to take a stand.  How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.
