Remember when Dems were trying to make a thing out of JD Vance being "weird"? Well, this is LEGIT weird. There's no place on earth right now where normal people do this type of performative bullshit. And it seems the party just can't shake it, no matter how much it hurts them.

Maine Democrats' coronation to replace Graham Platner opens with a land acknowledgement. "We are meeting today in the unceded homeland of the Penobscot nation, the Maine Democratic Party acknowledges the Maliseet, Mi‘kmaq, Passamaquoddy, and Penobscot tribal nations."

@kinocow Start charging rent by the minute. Add a punch in/punch out clock with biometric verification Add digital counters to all your switches & toilets, and charge fees above a select usage amount After all, the house is your asset, and you became a landlord to maximize NOI right?

Unpopular opinion: working in an office is 10x better than working from home as long as you don't have a crazy commute When I was a Mid Market AE, I could work fully remote but I pretty much went into the office every single day Face time w/ people you work w/, separate work & home, go into the city, take advantage of perks like breakfast/lunch Office maxing

@BoringBiz_ There are 250 players in the NBA. 50 of those maybe play on Christmas day Average earnings are >$5M. Unless your name is on the door of the firm, and you're earning equity, blowing up a family holiday to format a deck, build a model, or manage Q&A is purely for signaling.

@BrendanFoody Takes two to tango Companies expect loyalty from employees, but the moment they hit a speed bump, heads roll In the world we're in, loyalty doesn't pay unless you have equity or get sales commissions Competence & reliability compound, and thats not exclusive to your employer

I’ve been surprised by how short the average tenure is among young people I interview. Too many people in my generation underestimate how much relationships, reputation, equity, and trust compound over time. Instead, they jump to the hottest company every year because they think it looks good on a résumé. But look at almost anyone who’s built something extraordinary: they weren’t serial job hoppers.

@JoeCassandra 100% agree. They prioritized "experiences" and keeping up with the social pressures reinforced by social media. No reason a couple couldn't have saved $10K a year and purchased a starter condo/home, paid down debt and earned equity through appreciation.

As a millennial... this is BS. Most millennials are around mid 30s - 40s. You easily could've bought a nice 2500 sq ft house in the suburbs for 220k in 2018 But you didn't. You didn't prioritize building roots, building a family... And now that you're 35, 39, 42... you're upset that 220k house is now 420k and you're mad at everyone else. You gambled and you lost.
Maryam@hell_line0

I’m afraid that when millennials get old and can’t work anymore, a lot of us are going to end up homeless. There was just no way to get ahead. We worked just to pay off debt, and for many of us, there was never a real opportunity to save or buy a home because everything was so expensive. I genuinely worry that we’re going to see an entire generation of elderly millennials struggling just to survive, and that’s heartbreaking.

@Molson_Hart 100% - this was the last time in the West that true "nation building" took place. As a civilization we need another moment like this. And building out the telecommunications infrastructure in the 90/00s and the data center infrastructure today isn't anywhere remotely close.

The coolest time in American history is post civil war to world war 1 - westward expansion - railroads - invention of telephone - light bulb - first powered flight - ford model T We lost the plot right after that and im sure living then wasn’t easy but gotta respect that era.

@Camp4 100% agree. Far to many of us can't answer these questions: - What does your ideal day look like today, in 5 years and in 10 years - What is your highest value attribute - If money wasn't a factor, what profession would you pursue Which leads to never ending hamster wheel.

The only real measure of wealth: Boulder has the largest population of Unpaid Professional Athletes in the world. These are people who pursue trail running, climbing, or cycling full-time, scraping by on tiny sponsorships and odd jobs. If you handed one of these Unpaid Pros $10 million, they might buy a nice house or upgrade their Sprinter van. But the next morning they’d wake up and… run, climb, or ride. Their comfort level would change, but their day-to-day life would look the same. @Naval said the only real test of intelligence is whether you get what you want out of life. I have my own version: 📏 The only real measure of wealth is how close you are to your ideal life. The Unpaid Pros have a crystal-clear picture of their ideal life—and they've made the sacrifices to live it. Even though they don’t have financial security, they measure up pretty well on the wealth scale. At the other extreme, I've met plenty of rich executives who never stopped to define their ideal life—let alone build it. They’re stuck on the hamster wheel (just like most of us). Having worked in the upper echelons of business for two decades, I can tell you it’s more the rule than the exception. I’m not saying you should quit your job and become a dirtbag, but I am saying you should draw inspiration from Unpaid Pros: 1) Figure out what your ideal life looks like. 2) Make the sacrifices required to get there. Remember: The hamster wheel has no finish line. It only spins faster. It only stops when you decide to step off.

@GuruAnaerobic Too caught up in the external world and the perception of others. No self reflection to consider long term consequences of their actions, and what their ideal day would look like in their 40s-60s. The world will pass them by and many be in a state of regret. Especially women.

There's a large group of mid-30 somethings who are never going to have kids. They are living like they're in their 20's. Holidays, going out, living at the gym, drinking with their childless mates. They are not prepared to give up any of their time in bringing love (a small child) into the world. What's really caused this? I don't believe it has anything to do with the cost of raising children. People can live how they like, it is their choice - but I don't understand why people would choose to be an incomplete human being.

@NileGardiner Sir, your country is actively importing hordes of fighting age men from the 3rd world. These men are raping & pillaging your women and children, while spitting on your flag. Perhaps you should channel that energy to higher value cause. Your "England" may not exist in 50 years.

@samswoora If your long-term relationships or network are a byproduct of your employer, then your value to the market is near zero and entirely sits with the institution. People should do business with "Name". Not "Name" because he's with "X Company". If the the later, its transactional

@Molson_Hart This looks like the V2 of the "Google Adult Playground" where personal/professional are blended together to obscure deeper issues. Hope I'm wrong, but all these people look to be childless mid-career professionals who pivoted to "build" and ended up in an adult daycare fulltime.

Meta is building a $13 billion data centre north of Edmonton. Biggest one in Canada. 3,000 jobs to build it. 300 to run it once it's live. That ratio is the real story, not the headline number. Massive capital drops into a region, the grid gets upgraded, local suppliers get a season of work, and the permanent headcount ends up small enough to fit on one office floor. Good for Alberta's power infrastructure long term. Not the jobs boom the announcement wants people picturing.

@BoringBiz_ Welcome to a mature market, that is truly no longer growing. It's become a machine that protects the reputation and earnings power for those at the top (MDs & select firms), limiting optionality for the rest. It's no longer the innovative, wild-west space. Proceed accordingly

Lot of mid level finance professionals are coming to the realization that the career path is no longer what it used to promise There is a glut of seniors at the top, both IC members and portfolio managers, who soak up massive amounts of carry and earnings of the fund These seniors have already made it, realized on decades of good fund performance, and now sit in a cushy seat where they have to add very little value to keep getting paid 7 figures or above This has, in turn, created a blockage at the middle level, where Principals and VPs are not advancing forward through the pipeline at the same rate they used to What makes the problem even worse is the lack of exits and realizations in private equity land. It slows down fundraising, delays promotions, and makes carry less valuable as a form of compensation The VPs and Principals of today are competing twice as hard for the same seats while earning bonuses that might not ever become real dollars down the line The lateral hiring market has almost frozen up at the middle level because of this. People are waiting for the cash to check, but that time hasn't come in nearly half a decade

@SteveSaretsky The show must go on. This country and its citizens have zero appetite for change. Even if its inevitable and necessary. So controlled demolition of the currency and in turn the economy by the feds is the gameplan in order to institute a "new normal".
