Name one major technological or industrial breakthrough coming out of sub-Saharan Africa in the centuries before colonialism that was disrupted and reversed. Some books you don't even need to read to know they don't make sense. Walter Rodney's "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" is one of them. It pushes a comforting victimhood narrative that excuses decades of post-independence failure, corruption, and mismanagement by African leaders. We as Africans cannot keep blaming colonizers for "underdeveloping" us while Ethiopia (never colonized) and post-independence Africa tell a different story. Before recommending such books, research the author: a Marxist activist writing in the 1970s amid Cold War politics and personal grievances. Context matters. Ideology often masquerades as history. Africa had empires, trade, and achievements. But let's stop pretending we had advanced industrial civilizations that Europe destroyed. Development starts with truth, not excuses. Above all, love God.
