The World Cup starts in 30 days and legit barely anyone cares. In America, probably barely anyone knows the world’s biggest sport competition starts in a month. This has been the worst rollout for the World Cup I have ever seen in my life. It was a mistake to award it to Modern America. It’s no longer a serious society.

I have been sick at heart since the announcement of the Supreme Court decision which gutted the Voting Rights Act. Republicans throughout the south are racing to eliminate Black electoral power to elect representatives who look like them. We have seen this before, throughout Reconstruction and then as political deals and other Supreme Court decisions stripped away the brief gains that former enslaved people received with the 14th and 15th Amendments. But why as a Black person I despair is the stripping of rights is never enough. I fear that like before, the New Jim Crow will be brutally enforced by a corrupt, soulless social order that will stop at nothing to maintain its power. I am a child of Jim Crow refugees. There is history. Shame on the Supreme Court and shame on every person who voted to impose this regime. This is why elections matter. Vote them out in November.

As the Georgia governor’s race begins to take shape and Keisha Lance Bottoms emerges as the leading Democrat, let’s not forget the name Secoriea Turner. After the shooting of Rayshard Brooks, Keisha Bottoms allowed armed groups to take over the intersection of University Avenue and Pryor Street where a child with her whole life ahead of her was murdered because her Mother got off on the wrong exit. It’s also worth noting that all Officers involved in the shooting of Rayshard Brooks were later fully exonerated. Leadership means protecting the people you serve. Atlanta deserved that then, and Georgia deserves it now.

Ronald Acuna Jr is going on the 10 day IL for his hamstring strain. Most will say that’s good news. But the 10 Day IL is the minimum the braves can put him on the IL (15 day IL minimum for pitchers) and he could very well be transferred to the 60 day IL if it’s bad bad.
