@Chinaecherem_ @uzoart @adepentane @ScaramuciObongo An African, A Nigerian and you use rootless for them? I don't know about other parts of the world but in Nigeria we all know what it means for someone to be without roots, so please do not tell anyone they are rootless especially if they know their father's house.

I remember chatting to this old man in Naij when I was in the waiting room for Arise TV. He’s basically telling me how he’s always moving from state to state. I said, “oh wow, so you’re a vagabond” . Everyone around me gasped and he shouts that he’s not a vagabond 😭😭😭😭😭 learned that day ppl see it as an insult

@dhelton212 @ErikSperling @krystalball @esaagar I'm sure Krystal would have pressed her abt that if there was time. Cos if she claims to be so concerned about those starving kids, why is she not fighting the blockade instead of simply trying to get baby formula in? Is collective punishment no longer illegal in US & int'l law?

@ErikSperling @krystalball @esaagar regarding the end here, i think about how absolutely evil the current Israel govt is that Slotkin is talking about a proposal to simply get baby formula into GAZA. Israel having to be begged by the most powerful country on earth to let baby formula in to Gaza.

@brambletale @MrEwanMorrison The fact that they even thought it was okay to say that to you?!?!?! How are you offering feedback if you cannot even come up with said feedback yourself? I can't believe people in the literary arts decided it is okay to have machines be part of the CREATIVE process.

This is huge. - Publishers running your submitted books through AI systems adds your books to the AI training data without your consent. - Your book of 300-500 pages is being reduced to an AI summary and not "read" by editors. - An AI summary will be what your book is accepted or rejected on. - If the publisher tests your book to see if it was written with AI, it will get a false positive as the AI will recognise the book from it's training data, due to this process. This has to stop and publishers must be forced by agents and writers unions to sign agreements for every book, prior to 'reading' stating that they will not put submitted books through AI systems without written consent.

US immigration officials picked up a blind refugee and took him to a detention center but realized he was not a criminal and could not be deported. Instead of taking him home, they dropped him on the street five miles from his house and without the walking stick he had with him and needed. He died. This isn't about policy or whether illegal immigrants should be deported. It's common decency to our fellow man. Who would ever drop a blind man on the street without even the walking stick he had when you picked him up rather than taking him home. If you care about life and decency and morals than this must disgust you regardless of your politics. It's just wrong.

@lafemmefola I do agree with the general point you're making, but Nigerians are certainly direct victims of racism cos colonialism was borne out of racism, it just didn't show up the way it did in white-dominant societies. But we certainly have experienced historical racism as a society...(1)

I honestly need Nigerians to stay out of certain conversations that involve race, even the well meaning ones. The tweets from some tweeps on this BAFTA show have been quite embarrassing. And I want to believe it has something to do with us not being direct victims of racism.

@Teaethics @erharuspex @JohnEDeaton1 I had a knee-jerk reaction because people have used phrasing similar to yours to make homophobic arguments. But I seeing now that you might just be objectively stating that some things that used to be socially unaccepted can eventually become normalized.

@Teaethics @erharuspex @JohnEDeaton1 Okay, I apologize for reaching my own conclusions. I read that line as you saying that “if we could end up normalizing something as ‘bad’ as homosexuality, then we might end up normalizing pedophilia too. I understand now that might not be what you were saying...

Quite possibly the most disgusting headline I’ve ever read. As someone who was brutally raped by one of these Monsters for over two years, between the ages of 9-11, and as a former federal prosecutor, I can assure you what he did to me constituted heinous criminal acts. This op-ed is an insult to all victims of child rape. And by the way, there is no such thing as “sex with a child” - it’s called child rape.

Obviously you can't punish people for feeling a certain way, so what exactly is the point here? The point is to desensitize and to reduce the very proper and necessary disgust mechanism toward people who feel this way. The point is to start pedophilia down the normalization path that was taken by homosexuality.

@LiveFromVR @saraaa7447 @ytrav_alt What if it actually has the computing power to access & process the conversation you're having now and then tweak the result of that experiment to throw you off? Lmao, I'm just going crazy with the conspiracies, I know that's far-fetched. Or is it?

@saraaa7447 @ytrav_alt So let's test this empirically. Go into the kitchen with the pixel and talk about a random subject. Then go check your YouTube recommendations. Repeat this 10 times. How many times do you think it will show you what you were talking about? That way you can test confirmation bias

Then I went back to my computer and saw a bunch of "how to lucid dream" videos on YouTube. I haven't seen videos relating to the topic in over 4 years so yeah y'all might wanna install Graphene or smth 💀

As a fellow person with Tourette's Syndrome it's a little disheartening to see people continue to demand for a direct apology from John. Firstly because he doesn't owe the general public an apology for his condition, secondly because we don't know if he reached out privately to the presenters afterwards (or if they even want him to), and finally because the BBC are more at fault here for leaving the tics in the broadcast when it was pre-recorded and they could have easily edited it out (as they apparently did with a pro-palestine speech).
Variety@Variety

"I Swear" subject John Davidson, who has Tourette's syndrome and shouted the N-word at the BAFTAs while Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting, speaks out amid controversy: “I wanted to thank BAFTA and everyone involved in the awards last night for their support and understanding and inviting me to attend the broadcast. I appreciated the announcement to the auditorium in advance of the recording, warning everyone that my tics are involuntary and are not a reflection of my personal beliefs. I was heartened by the round of applause that followed this announcement and felt welcomed and understood in an environment that would normally be impossible for me. In addition to the announcement by Alan Cumming, the BBC and BAFTA, I can only add that I am, and always have been deeply mortified if anyone considers my involuntary tics to be intentional or to carry any meaning... I have spent my life trying to support and empower the Tourette’s community and to teach empathy, kindness and understanding from others and I will continue to do so. I chose to leave the auditorium early into the ceremony as I was aware of the distress my tics were causing.” variety.com/2026/film/awar…
