This is good context from Dane. There just is very, very little wiggle room for the Wolves, which makes signing any name free agent, let alone one of the two biggest in this history of the NBA, very tough. They’re trying on a lot of fronts, but it’s tough
Dane Moore@DaneMooreNBA

So missed a couple things in my last salary cap update. (Sorry, this stuff is confusing.) - LaMelo Ball had a 15% trade bonus on his $40.77M salary. But because he can't earn beyond 25% of the salary cap, he only gets part of that 15% trade bonus -- pushing his salary up to 25% of the $165M cap, which is $41.25M . So Ball gets about a $500k trade bonus. And that's $500k deeper into the luxury tax for the Wolves. - Jaden McDaniels has an "unlikely incentive" in his contract for $1.07M next season. But that whole incentive counts against the luxury tax aprons -- because it could happen. - Donte DiVincenzo also has an unlikely incentive in his contract for $750k, which also counts against the tax aprons. (Really pushing the limits of unlikely here.) They're small things, but big enough so the Wolves do not have the full tax MLE to use -- the tool they were going to use to offer a free agent up to $6.1M . But now Minnesota does not have $6.1M of space beneath the 2nd apron, where they are hard-capped. Including the Ball trade bonus, the Wolves have two open roster spots to fill and $8.1M in space beneath the 2nd apron. But after the unlikely incentives for McDaniels ($1.1M) and DiVincenzo ($750k), that's $6.3M beneath the 2nd apron with two roster spots to fill. That is basically just space for two minimum contracts in free agency. Any other type of roster addition would need to come via trade.

@DonHarris4 What was the good argument? That he's fine with his players elbowing people in the head intentionally?

Very doubtful that Victor Wembanyama will face any further disciplinary action IMO. 1. He’s a star. NBA wants stars in tv. 2. He’s already got 3 quarters time served. 3. He acted defensively and arguably justifiably if you dissect the tape. Mitch Johnson spelled out a good argument.

@bballbreakdown So an offensive player can just jam their knee into a defender while moving AWAY from the basket and it should be called a foul every time?

@Jacobtheclipper If the losing team is still chucking up shots (especially their top player or two) then it’s fair game to keep playing. The best sportsmanship? No but also who cares it wasn’t a show off dunk it was a lay up. To sprint across the court and grab him is 100x worse sportsmanship.

This “unwritten” rule makes no sense Murray can chuck up a 3 with no shot clock but Jaden can’t score? Nuggets should have held the ball, it’s on them.

Anthony Edwards/Rudy Gobert pick and roll. Jokic is at the level, two on the ball and Edwards hits Rudy on the roll. Forces more help, sees it and gets it right to Julius Randle.

@sdskol1983 @jasonmgood Fair, but that’s the only possible way this could be a foul. In the playoffs are we really nitpicking about how straight up he was? Would be different if Gordon’s arms came down and hit ant or something
