@SawyerMerritt I vote no because Ohio already does this crap. I have a regular hybrid and get charged a big fee while Honda civics get better mpg and no extra fee. It’s garbage.

U.S. House lawmakers have proposed bipartisan legislation that ‌would require electric vehicles to pay a $130 fee to pay for road repairs annually and $35 for some plug-in hybrid models. The House is working on a five-year highway reauthorization bill expected to ‌cost more than $500 billion ahead of the current law expiration on Sept 30, 2026. Most revenue for federally funded road repairs is collected through diesel and gasoline taxes, which EVs do not pay. I think $130 is fair since over time there will be fewer gas vehicles on the road generating tax revenue, They'll need to make up the difference somewhere so they can keep repairing roads, etc. Full bill text in thread below:

@RepLuna @realannapaulina Yeah. That $3 savings per fill up is really going to make a difference. Don’t get me wrong I don’t think the tax should exist but this isn’t even close to a solution

Gas prices directly impact every American. We need to put party politics aside and pass my American Families Gas Tax Relief Act (H.R. 8795) to temporarily remove the federal gas tax for 120 days, taking 18 cents off gas and 24 cents off diesel. This is commonsense legislation.

@MKaylaUltra They should make peanuts. People should have zero incentive to serve in congress other than a patriotic sense of duty. Don’t make enough? Leave and go make your money. Wonder how many 30+ year senators we would have then

Unironically, Senators should be paid $500k - $1m/ year, but the exchange is that you are unequivocally banned from lobbying/consulting and stock trading for 15+ years
Rep. Jack Kimble@RepJackKimble

Just a friendly warning. We don’t even make $200k per year in Congress despite working nearly 140 days. If we aren’t properly compensated, a lot of us will go to the private sector and you will be left with some real idiots in Congress.

Ohioans are putting $10 in the gas tank at a time while members of Congress make $635 million trading stocks. You’re pinching every penny while Congress is cashing in. That’s a problem.

@RepJackKimble No a lot of you won’t go to the private sector as you all have shown. We wish you would. We don’t care if we trade new idiots for old idiots. Makes no difference. And your salary for 144 days plus being able to insider trade and become millionaires seems like a sweet gig.

@JoshEakle Excuse me?? We are all making 30% less because of your decisions and none of you appear to be “qualified” for the job. If you want to trade stocks fine, but index funds only. If you don’t like what you make, leave! Should be temporary anyway

Mike Johnson says Congress can't survive on $174k because of inflation, and uses that to justify letting members trade stocks. Incredible take from the guy who decided his only job was taking orders from the President.

My opponent called Ohioans “lazy and mediocre” but I know that couldn’t be further from the truth, when: Childcare costs thousands of dollars a year, and parents are working harder than ever. Gas is at a historic high, and Ohioans are struggling to fill up their tanks. Our corrupt Statehouse underfunds public schools, and teachers are forced to do even more with less. As governor, I’ll fight to lower costs for every Ohioan.

@RepLuna We shouldn’t be taxed on it to begin with. Ultimately this is a national security issue. I’m generally not for government controlling anything but seems to me with gas the government ought to ensure any oil pumped from federal lands is sold into the US market at cost

Gas and diesel prices impact literally every part of daily life in America, from getting to work to buying groceries. This bill pauses the federal gas and diesel tax to give Americans immediate relief and put more money back in their pockets.

And those 300+ public schools are using your tax dollars to challenge the state law that gives you a choice in your child’s education. They will ultimately lose. When they come begging for more taxes, ask them why they spent the money you already gave them on losing lawsuits.

NOW: In Ohio's 10th District Court of Appeals, 300+ public schools are fighting to end the EdChoice private school voucher program. The state has asked judges to overturn the majority of a trial ruling, one that deemed the program unconstitutional. @WEWS @WCPO @OhioCapJournal

🚨 BOMBSHELL IN OHIO: The State Auditor just dropped a damning report exposing what could be one of the largest Medicaid fraud schemes in recent memory. A staggering 40% of all home healthcare spending is concentrated in Franklin County. Even more suspicious: massive funds flowing into just TWO ZIP codes located only 4 miles apart. Auditors are now investigating up to $4 BILLION in potential fraud involving foreigners. This is taxpayer money being looted on a massive scale. Time to defund these programs and launch a full criminal investigation immediately.

George Kamel explains $100,000/year is enough to raise 4 kids in a high-cost-of-living area👀 “Let’s say a high-cost-of-living area… $100,000. Because if you do the math on that, you’re talking $6,000 a month probably coming in, maybe $5,000 if you’re in high-tax California. And you have a reasonable mortgage that’s $2,000 a month. You’ve got $3,000 a month to play with to cover food, utilities, insurance, a little bit of fun money...”

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
The single largest form of theft in America is wage theft. $50 billion a year are stolen from American workers. If a billionaire amasses their wealth by underpaying their full-time workers so severely that they must rely on food assistance and government programs to survive, then no, that wealth was not earned by one individual - it was a wealth transfer subsidized by underpaid American workers and the public who get stuck with the bill for large corporations free-riding off our systems. The point is less about individual morality. It’s more about how our current economic reality of shattering inequality rewards screwing over workers and exploiting essential systems at scale. We’re talking monopoly power. Rent-seeking. Wage theft. Profiteering. Stock buybacks. Destabilizing housing markets. Companies using SNAP/EBT to underwrite their wages. Massive government subsidies or contracts to corporations following lobbying and dark money in politics with little to no oversight or accountability. Some people get enraged that I draw attention to this. That’s on them. Let them call me shrill, dumb, inexperienced, girly, uneducated - these folks will say anything to distract from or undercut the truth that working people are getting screwed, and giving people a fair shake means we must have a grown conversation about reigning in abuse of power.
Marco Foster@MarcoFoster_

AOC: “There’s a certain level of wealth and accumulation that is unearned. You can’t earn a billion dollars. You just can’t earn that. You can get market power, you can break rules, you can abuse labor laws, you can pay people less than what they’re worth, but you can’t earn that”

BREAKING: FedEx driver who pleaded guilty to kidnapping and murdering 7-year-old Athena Strand, has been sentenced to death. Tanner Horner snatched Athena while he was delivering a Barbie doll to her home in Paradise, Texas. At one point during the trial, jurors broke down in tears while hearing audio of Horner killing Athena after he told her to take off her shirt and said she was "really pretty." Athena repeatedly asked for her mother before she was killed. "Horner is then heard asking Athena to remove her shirt, and there are several moments when she says "no" and asks for her mom. That was followed by repeated sounds of crying, screaming and banging," NBC reported last month. Following three hours of deliberation today, Horner was sentenced to death by lethal injection.
