What does institutional clean cooking look like? At Mama Ngina school in Kiambu County, Kenya, it looks like two 600-liter electric stoves, installed by Ecobora, with a @BurnMfg briquette stove in case of a power outage. With these changes, the school can feed its nearly 2,400 students and immediately move away from smoky and expensive firewood.

Last week, I held a productive engagement with @IEA (International Energy Agency) leadership ahead of 2ndAfrica Clean Cooking Summit #ACCS2026, to be co-hosted by the Government of Kenya with IEA and the Governments of Norway and the USA. I welcomed the addition of @AfDB & @_AfricanUnion as co-hosts, an important step toward delivering a stronger and more impactful Summit for Africa. With rising LPG supply risks, this is a critical moment to accelerate sustainable, locally driven clean cooking solutions. I reaffirm my commitment, and that of the Government of Kenya, to work with IEA and partners to deliver an ambitious Summit that drives real progress for people, nature, and climate. @WilliamsRuto

Unlocking finance for institutional clean cooking is no longer aspirational, it is actionable. Yesterday, through the Clean Cooking Delivery Unit in our office, we convened partners alongside @InvestKenya and the Office of the First Lady, including @CleanCooking, @UNDPKenya, @MECS_Energy, CLASP NGO, @GIZ_Kenya, NACONEK, the Government of Makueni County, and @PrisonsKe, to validate Kenya’s Institutional Clean Cooking Sector Pack. Private-sector innovators including @burnmanufacture, IGNIS Innovation Africa, @ecobora , and @Feionventures - joined government and development leaders to translate clean cooking from pilots into investment-ready portfolios across schools, hospitals, and other public institutions. With tens of thousands of institutions still reliant on traditional fuels, institutional clean cooking represents one of Kenya’s most immediate pathways for climate action, green industrialisation, and improved public service delivery, anchored in KNCTS and KNeCS. Clean cooking is no longer only a development challenge.
