What do we think about the fly by exchange in the 4x200?!
Saw it used perfectly today and want to know what people think about it.

@RoxanaAthletics Don't understand why this was necessary lengthen the season, take away the dead period before football starts, put losing teams into the playoffs.
Why? So IHSA can charge for another week of playoff football, so poor & mediocre teams can hang a banner saying they made playoffs?
English

IHSA update: A proposal recommended by Sports Medicine Advisory Committee and the IHSA Board of Directors would now move 2026 football practice to Aug. 5, restore 12 required practices, and set the dead week for June 29–July 5.
This is not official and must first be approved by the Legislative Commission on Jan. 27 and ratified by IHSA member schools. Families should be prepared to adjust summer plans.
The timeline for this process is as follows:
January 27, 2026- The Legislative Commission will meet and vote on whether to advance the proposal to a membership vote.
January 29, 2026 - If the Legislative Commission approves the advancement, all member schools will have the opportunity to vote on the proposal.
February 12, 2026 - Voting closes
***If the proposal passes, August 5 becomes the first practice date of the 2026 football season.***

@ty21taylor @repkingtrep33 Who makes these polls in 2A? Nashville has beaten Central. Pleasant Plains beat T-Town by 10 last weekend, and Carlyle receiving votes is a 1A school.

@MikeCunningham I would say it's dependent upon the athlete. I always trend to a less is more but some athletes genetics have greater endurance qualities and while they still need speed training, their bodies tend to thrive more on a little more volume/endurance specific workouts.
English

@StevePorter51 @Chawgo I understand, but some play football, some don't. Some big schools play down for some sports, some small schools play up for others. It's time, JMO, for a clean break. No confusion, you're all in or all out.

@Chawgo @CoachBMurph29 Cahokia has 3 divisions and 2 play football

@pntrack @clh_strength @Bill_Dill4 I can remember reading a study (sorry I don't remember the author) but the summary was athletes who tend to lift a lot & not sprint/jump had higher incidents of tendon & ligament injury, whereas athletes who only sprinted & jumped w/o weights didn't but had more soft tissue INJ

Tendons.
My quad tendon tear (April 25) and surgery (May 6) has been a life changing event. Yesterday I hit 96 degrees of flexion 🙂. My surgeon says he “worries about guys like me”… reminding me it will take a FULL YEAR to recover. For Charles Barkley, tearing his quad tendon was a career-ender.
Jayson Tatum (age 27) and Tyrese Halliburton (age 25) both tore tendons (Achilles) as I watched the NBA Playoffs from my recliner.
When I stumbled off a 5” stair, my quad tendon snapped before I hit the ground. My tendon was tight after a long run earlier that morning AND it was 66 years old. I believe my tendon would NOT have snapped at the age of 26.
This “age of tendons” idea has dominated my thoughts on the subject.
The number of devastating tendon injuries in 🏀 & 🏈 has become a five alarm fire.
But, in my 44 years of coaching, I’ve never seen a torn tendon in a HS athlete. I’m sure it’s happened but generally speaking, YOUNG TENDONS DON’T TEAR.
Here’s my take…
Muscles are well-fed and regenerate, grow, and are relatively ageless. I can grow my muscles at the age of 66.
Tendons are not well-fed (low blood supply) and they arguably age faster than muscles.
I would gladly trade my tendon injury for a gruesome bullet wound to my quad or a grotesque broken leg. Muscles and bones are highly vascularized and heal fast.
So, why are young professional athletes tearing tendons like senior citizens?
🏀 & 🏈 athletes must train elasticity (tendons). In today’s highly monetized sports world, the volume of training is never enough. #MambaMentality
Speed and explosiveness (jumping & accelerating) are KPIs and have a huge elastic component. You can never be fast enough. You can never be explosive enough.
💥 What if training speed and explosiveness ages tendons while bones & muscles stay young and strong?
Imagine tendons being like a set of tires: 50,000 miles and they need replaced. Worn out tires can’t be repaired.
What if playing 🏀 year-round for ten years puts 30 years of age on tendons?
What if NFL 🏈 players work 6 hours a day to keep the traits that punched their ticket to the league? Do their tendons grow stronger along with their muscles? Or do their tendons age?
I’ll end with 3 quotes from Charlie Francis:
“With elite athletes, you don’t have to push them — you have to hold them back.”
“The art of coaching is knowing what not to do.”
“High-intensity work requires high-quality recovery.”

@astro_COOL_guy @pntrack Yeah there are no rules like that. I wish we'd have a dedicated time schedule like state we'd adhere to. I will say the track we were at had no lights, so it had to be done by a certain time but even getting done at 6:30 would have given athletes more time.
English

@CoachBMurph29 @pntrack Interesting. In Wisconsin, by rule, field events start at 4, running at 445 and the boys’ 4x4 may start no earlier than 810. 2 regionals advance top 4 finishers to a sectional, so only 1 heat of everything. tinyurl.com/m5t8xd53
English

@pntrack Exactly! Makes it very tough on a kid trying to compete in 3-4 events.
