Anyone else stuck on a loop and frozen from the game? Restarted the console twice but it always resumes back at this screen and can’t exit… been an hour now. Tried starting the Ultimate team and was doing rewards when it froze.. @EASPORTSCollege #CFB25

English

@JohnCornyn The problem now is that it’s too late to get rid of Obamacare unless you have a better option. We couldn’t afford our health insurance without the subsidies on Obamacare. We now have sky high deductibles since Obamacare. We’re self employed

@9mmsmg My health insurance for 4 people on Obamacare is more than my house payment. I am self-employed and taxes (property and fed) and car/house insurance eat up a huge part of our budget.

@ThinkAppraiser Self employed. Health insurance and dental are a racket.
English

Dentists are a racket.
Went in for a teeth cleaning earlier this year.
Cost is $180. I didn’t realize that I can opt for just the cleaning and not have a dentist exam.
I opted out of exam. So now cost is $90 for cleaning only.
That means the dentist gets paid $90 for roughly less than 5 minutes of their time.
I’m in the wrong profession.

This post will do well
I’ve had good experiences too
But keep in mind they aren’t actual insurance, can (and have) gone belly up, don’t qualify for the self employed health insurance tax deduction and aren’t great solutions for preexisting conditions
I do however think the future looks more like this + concierge medicine for entrepreneurs than whatever the exchange is

How is health insurance $1700/mo with an $8000 deductible?
It was 2015. Premiums were on the highway to hell.
Then I found the best kept secret in healthcare (out of desperation).
Today I pay $327/mo for my family of 7.
In this post I share how you can unlock the same for your family.
Quick recap:
2015. I’m self-employed, married, expecting our 3rd child. We couldn’t afford the new premium.
After days of conversations, research, and a leap of faith we joined a “healthcare sharing” or “health share” organization.
Three of my wife’s pregnancies/deliveries. Paid $0.
$15K ER bill (2016). Paid $0.
$4K ER bill (2024). Paid $68.
My friend’s infant had $150K emergency heart surgery. She paid $0.
We haven’t looked back (8+ yrs). You won’t either.
Okay, “Healthcare Share” what?!
Shockingly, these go WAY back! First one was founded in 1981. Many more since.
Healthcare sharing ministries generally involve members sharing medical expenses directly with each other. The non-profit organizations manage the membership and member needs.
Members choose their own healthcare providers, which is awesome (freedom from network restrictions).
You pay a monthly “share” assigned to you to help another member with their medical bills. This is a predetermined amount and essentially replaces your health insurance “premium.”
As mentioned, for my family of seven it’s $327/mo.
How does it compare to traditional insurance?
Many people throw out the caution that “it’s not insurance!”
In my view, that’s a feature, not a bug.
They are not insurance, but serve the same purpose. Major medical (cancer, surgeries, treatments) are generally covered.
Instead of “premiums” you have “shares.”
Instead of “co-pays” you have “co-shares.”
Instead of deductibles you have “initial unshareable amounts.”
But you often pay WAYYY less than the insurance equivalent in each category.
There are other benefits (and a few important notes).
Much more to come on this topic!
The primary points I wanted to share today:
It is legit. It is reliable. It’s not too good to be true.
If you have questions and would like me to dig deeper, follow me @joebenson and let me know in the comments.
If there’s enough interest I’ll do a follow up showing exactly how it all works in detail.
I'll also outline a number of alternative health share organizations I’ve heard good things about.

@RepRonEstes Any chance of working on better Healthcare for self employed people? Obama care isn't affordable & regularl Ins. still don't except pre-existing. Any relief from this Health Insurance scam is greatly appreciated.

@RightWingDad @MarkHamill I’m self-employed so my wife and I get our health insurance through the marketplace ($2k a month). Before the ACA if I got sick my insurer could drop me or raise my rates so much I couldn’t get insurance. Why do you want me to lose my health insurance?

Health insurance may be the biggest threat to small business owners.
When I decided to dive in full-time in 2017, insurance premiums were scary.
Up to $2,000 a month for Obamacare at the time.
We found a health-sharing option that fits our families needs perfectly for $600/mo.
Now it’s $801/mo (still a great deal)
We tell the hospital that we are “self-pay”.
This leads to a discount of up to 40%.
(Seriously, 40%! My stroke visit ended up being over $40k. They gave a $16k discount.)
Then we submit everything to our health share, and they pay the balance.
100%
Oh yea, and our incidents only require $1000 out of pocket/yr (think of this as our ‘deductible’)
