Houston HC Kelvin Sampson - Why Coaches Fail - "I think the coaches that fail at every level, are the coaches that are passive aggressive. Passing aggressive coaches are usually afraid to hold kids accountable, they rationalize." - "If you're going to build a culture, the first thing you have to come to grips with, you're going to have confrontation." - Consistency - Competence - Confidence - Confrontation

Young coaches, go coach defense. Even one season. You'll learn more about attacking a defense than any clinic or course will teach you. Because you'll know what beats them.

What "conditioning" means to me: The ability to hold perfect position, technique, and max speed/power longer than your opponent. Once you lose the capacity to maintain technique and position, your advantage is gone. Sub maximal "conditioning" doesn't build that. In fact, it works against it. It detrains the CNS and makes you slower, less powerful, and more prone to injury when it matters. If being a high performer is king, then by its very nature "conditioning" will always be my sworn enemy!! Train to stay fast and dominant under real duress, not just to "not get tired."
StrengthCoachNetwork@StrCoachNetwork

Enough is enough. Some coaches talk about “conditioning” like it’s the enemy. Why? Because they think conditioning only means: • 110s • 300-yard shuttles • running miles Those are methods, not the principle. That’s like saying you hate strength training because you don’t squat, bench, or deadlift. Good conditioning simply means an athlete can produce and recover from effort repeatedly in sport. Tempo work can be conditioning. Small-sided games can be conditioning. Circuits can be conditioning. This can be done on feet and off. Different tools. Same principle. The idea that conditioning is automatically “bad for athletes” is poor coaching. If you want a better breakdown, read this: strengthcoachnetwork.com/blog/What-Cond… Then Friday we go deep on the topic with Jonah Rosner (@jonisportsci) — former NFL performance coach now working with elite marathon runners — on the relationship between sprinting, strength, and conditioning.

one will hear coach or colleague shouting instructions to a competitor to correct faulty technique during rapid movements. This is little more than useless because it is not possible consciously to change the course of any movement which lasts less than 0.4 second (Thomas, 1970)

USF head coach, Brian Hartline, demanding his players do all they can to win the moment… This second This action This activity This session Today This week Next game This month This season Sports are game of moments. In fact, there are thousands of micro-moments in every game that can be won or lost. And these moments…these micro-moments…constantly influence the momentum of the game. The momentum of the game as it swings back and forth. Underpinning moments and momentum is mindset. Is a player, are players, and is a team in High Performance Mindsets vertically or Low Performance Mindset? Mindset drives Moments drives Momentum. Sports are games of Mindset, Moments, and Momentum. And this is why I want every player I work with and every team I work with to be outstanding at starting and staying in a High Performance Mindset. “Most people don’t want be pushed that hard. They want to be pushed to their level of comfort. You need coaches that push you outside your comfort zone because that’s how you grow and that’s how you develop self confidence and self esteem. They push you to deal with failure,” Tom Brady 🎥 @dc_mma

If you're leading a team, remember: - 90% of your team didn't hear you the 1st time - 50% didn't hear you the 3rd time - 10% never will Clear communication requires repetition. When you're sick of saying it, they start to hear it.

System reviews & self-scouts are incredibly important because the numbers paint a very clear picture. Does production support what you do? Does production support how you do it?
