My son is six, and he can read chapter books but he can’t tie his own shoes. Any advice?

@CoachCrumpton @Spencinoo UT would NEVER let it happen bc they want to double book and parking can’t accommodate. A&M would be the place for it, but they don’t have the seating. If only UIL wasn’t literally UT, that COI might let us have a serious convo about this.

@Spencinoo Better idea is to take more from regionals and run prelims and finals at the state meet. Would have to split it up over two weekends or get creative with how it was structured, but if you’re in Region 2 or 3 you could have some unbelievable kids that don’t have a shot.

@830finestt I would disagree. Single sport coaches pigeon hole kids into being year round, single sport athletes bc they have a very narrow lens. This kills athletic “program” one after another. We are either multi sport atw, or just switch to club model and give up.

I’d love for UIL in Texas to get rid of having to coach a secondary sport while also being a full time teacher. Burnout and time split (3) ways not including family is causing even more teacher/coaches shortages and often your basketball coaches just fillers until spring.

@CoachDistance Daniels uses a ton of 3k paced work and my kids have always found it difficult. I am a huge fan of 500’s @3k pace personally, as they usually pull it back a little when they see that it’s over 400m in length, but it’s usually short enough to hit splits. Fan of 500/150 split reps.

3200m pace is a difficult pace to train at for high school runners. It's hard to get a lot of volume at that intensity when doing longer reps (800m+) and difficult to reign in the intensity on shorter reps. As an anecdote, I coached a 8:34.10 2 miler and we did ONE 3200m pace workout all season (300's w/ 100m jog). Most of the work was over/under 3200m pace.

@CoachJTAyers The business model is FLAWLESS. By the time parents figure it out, their second or third kid is grown. The next parent are clueless as they are on their first kid. Cycle repeats. Endless supply of fresh clientele…

@Top25PublicHSFB @18handicap @vypehouston Incorrect. Most of the top XC programs travel out of state every year for national caliber meets. Houston are teams traveled to Cali, Stillwater, Arkansas, and Missouri this year. Anybody can travel if they can find the funding for it and administrative support.

@RodMurrow Hmm… imagine if our collegiate distance coaches had been developing American runners instead of importing Africans…. Maybe we would still have a solid team.

@stevemagness @ThePapaLinks That argument doesn’t seem to be good enough for people though… what about the fact that we are using tax dollars to train the Olympic teams of other countries?? Why are we spending money to educate internationals over the actual kids that will live/work is USA afterwards?

@ThePapaLinks This is logical and understood to anyone who hasn’t lost their mind on the internet. It’s the infiltration of folks who are much older who might as well be pros. There’s no development. Hired guns.

Unsurprisingly this turned into a “BYU has old athletes”. BYU athletes are AT MOST 2 years older than their peers, what Eyestone is talking about is people coming to college at the age of a super senior and starting the clock. I graduated from BYU at 23 btw after 5 years.
Jonathan Gault@jgault13

BYU coach Ed Eyestone pulling no punches with his thoughts on international runners in the NCAA: "Some coaches have decided to take a shortcut by taking foreign talent. Many are older and developed. I always felt I’d be embarrassed to have seven foreigners on the team."

@ScottRagan @SciInTheMaking @JamesAFurey 2/2 I am on a campus where admin have high expectations of students and rigor. Even my kids with “test anxiety” or are truly SpEd, are capable of so much more than the system expects of them. They often perform higher than their peers solely bc they care and try, anxiety or not.

@ScottRagan @SciInTheMaking @JamesAFurey 1/2 And on the other side of that coin we have people who pretend ALL students who have test taking issues suffer from it. Mainly bc it’s easier to push that burden onto the teacher than to help fight the real battles on the administrative level.
