Engineers at Coinbase are getting closer to recursive self-improvement, or loops. For instance, agents can now ingest and summarize customer feedback collected right in the app, prioritize bugs and features based on that feedback, draft the code, security review it, and provide it to a human engineer for final review. All happens automatically each day and it learns from the human edits to improve over time. We're finding more areas to introduce loops across the company. Instead of prompting agents with what to do, you can increasingly give them a goal, and they bring back high quality work for you to review.

Manual risk model retraining is slow. To stay ahead of evolving fraud, our Risk ML team automated the end-to-end retrain loop using internal Agentic Skills while keeping human-review gates intact. The automated 3-step loop: 1️⃣ Emerging Trend Analysis: Examine emerging trend scenarios where the model did not implement downstream friction during a target timeframe to drive continuous model optimization. 2️⃣ Feature Enrichment: Compare against our feature platform to find relevant signals not used by the current model. 3️⃣ Model Retrain: Executes baseline training, autonomously spins up ~24 parallel hyperparameter sweeps, and aggregates metrics directly from logs.

some of the stuff we shipped in H1 on the card team @coinbase mux: an internal tool that lets you code with any harness or cli that coinbase eng have access to. mux also helps with token spend. (see @brian_armstrong’s recent post on AI spend) for example: - use one opus 4.8 session for planning and route to @cursor_ai composer 2.5 for implementation by spawning new mux sessions on different worktrees rolled it out across the company. read more here -> coinbase.com/blog/coding-ha… card agent on slack, which basically turned into another teammate: - every page or monitor alert is triaged by Card agent and it effectively builds an intelligence to help for future pages - you can ping it for investigations and it retains memory from past interactions - runs our weekly ops reviews - logs every bug, triage, page and monitor alert into linear, which doubles as its memory - if it sees a page or monitor it can fix with code, it uses our in-house software factory (Forge @chintanturakhia) to do it partnered with agentX @kylecesmat @siddharthkul in the platform org(@rwitoff) on a slack multiplexer that lets any team spin up a slack bot trivially with only one slack app. AI advisor bot @teghsm and more! product side: - travel portal: 5% bitcoin back on flights, hotels and cars, no monthly cap. lives in the app, built with rocket travel - secured card: post $500 to $5,000 in usdc as collateral to get approved with no credit history, and you still earn rewards on the deposit - web onboarding - card management improvements - many more improvements and more coming :) feels like we were an army of 100, but we're ~9 ICs in the card team with @vladberteanu. the company makes it easy to partner across orgs and ship together, which is most of why any of this works.

We built our own internal Slack agent called cb-agent. Instead of context-switching through multiple tools, anyone can tag it in a channel to kick off agentic workflows. In just its first few weeks of production, cb-agent is already: → Generating ~15% of our PRs → Kicking off thousands of tasks a month, right from Slack → Running our AI on-call to filter noise and only escalate for human-review when necessary

When a new fraud pattern hits, figuring out which signals already exist in your data (and what new ones you should build) is a manual, time-consuming process. We built a search tool over our internal feature store and event logs that lets fraud analysts describe a new scam in plain English and quickly discover relevant signals.
