Glanced at the front page of The West this morning in the coffee shop. It seems Komisar Stokes of SWM, in cohorts with co owner Rinehart, has directed his minions to shit all over Andrew Hastie over his evidence against Ben Roberts Smith. Propaganda and abuse of media power 101

@JmarrMarr Because Labor, since 2022, have been free of any major scandals, have been a stable gov with most ministers still holding their original portfolios & they are getting things done. The only thing MSM are left with is pathetically highlighting any minor hiccup as a major scandal.

Why is the Media so hostile toward the emergency warning trial? Too many times the Media runs negative stories around public health & safety initiatives, like wearing masks during the Covid pandemic, giving a platform to anti vax rhetoric & complaining about closures & distancing

@timritchie @corybernardi @OneNationAus @one_nationSA 30yrs ago Scientist predicted coastal erosion like the people of Lancelin WA are now seeing. The local member is a NAT &last election had 2pp vote of 63%.This is a party whose National Leader calls CC a hoax & renewables a scam. Maybe a voting slip is more powerful than sandbags.

@corybernardi @OneNationAus @one_nationSA There is an overwhelming agreement among published climate scientists—exceeding 99% consensus, major global scientific bodies (such as NASA and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) that the climate is actively warming and that human activities are the primary cause.

@normboy562 Bragg is a whinging bullshit artist. The last time he was on Insiders he said he would resign from the front bench if LNP dropped net zero by 2050 - which they did and yet he is still there. Weak as pis. @ajamesbragg

@CharlesSzulc @abcnews @AustralianLabor I heard on ABC radio this morning. No mention of Berejiklian in the story. Looked on line and McGuire story there too - heading below. Compare that to Palaszczuk headline . Dear @abcnews - why do you ex female premiers treated differently when their partners get into trouble.

@AdamS93880119 @Ispeek4me Nice post but u failed to mention the recommendations in the report said the Gov will need AI operators to provide their own power to avoid these demands on supply. This was covered in Pms speech & operators will be required to provide their own power Why didn’t you mention that?

AI data centres are extremely energy-intensive — a single large one can use as much power as tens of thousands of homes. Some operators overseas have even explored dedicated small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) because of the massive demand. In Australia, we have no nuclear power and our coal fleet (still the backbone of baseload) is ageing and retiring. Data centre demand in the NEM is projected to triple to ~12 TWh by 2030 (around 6% of grid electricity, equivalent to powering all homes in Victoria), and could reach much higher with the big pipeline of projects, especially in NSW and Victoria. If this extra load competes on the existing grid without enough new generation (especially firm/dispatchable power), it risks driving up wholesale prices — reports warn of potential increases up to 26% in NSW and 23% in Victoria by 2035 if not matched with new renewables + storage, leading to more reliance on expensive gas. Households and businesses could end up footing more of the bill for network upgrades and peaking power.”

Barnaby Joyce blabbering in relation to Ai data centres on ABC radio says: “How are you going to do it with some of the dearest electricity in the world?” Why does our media not question him and his rubbish? In comparison to other OECD countries & looking at recent multi-year averages (2023–2025), Australia’s average residential electricity rate sat at roughly 39¢ AUD per kWh, putting it just slightly above the OECD average of 38¢. This ranks Australia around the 15th most expensive out of 38 nations which is well below hyper-expensive European nations like Italy (66¢), Ireland (69¢), and Germany (61¢). If we consider wholesale electricity prices Australia performs exceptionally well. Data tracked by the International Energy Agency (IEA) places Australia as the 9th cheapest for wholesale electricity out of 31 tracked OECD countries, largely driven by high regional penetration of low-cost solar and renewables. Claiming we have some of the dearest electricity in the world only aligns with the anti net zero, anti renewables stance of conservative parties. It doesn't align with reality. Much the same as Barnaby.

SC Lancaster says Segal’s evidence of Jewish community complaints is “difficult to test” — she’s given no real evidence, just vague generalities. Segal concedes, but insists the complaints have a “strongly held perception.” That’s her hard evidence. Words. Gobsmacking.

Segal insists it’s too “difficult” to answer how she justifies attacking ABC’s Gaza coverage, when just 4 of “literally thousands” Ombudsman complaints are actually substantiated.🙄 Pathetic Then attacks ombudsman’s “standards”, wants her personally endorsed standards. Dangerous

Not sure why governments are required to get an electoral mandate for tax changes but are free to re-legislate on all other policy issues without calling a poll. Or why reneging on tax commitments is a more serious crime than changing policies on other issues. The old hip pocket nerve? And the Greens didn't change their position. If you were seriously concerned about rising taxes you would be posting every day about tax dodging rorts and the tax avoidance industry at the upper end of town, which is a much bigger scandal than very modest changes to the CGT. After all, they are directly connected. Why the silence? If you seriously think the Liberals are going to deliver a lower and fairer tax regime without slashing welfare and support for your former class, you have just not been paying attention. PS: I thing "back on track" is copyrighted by One Nation. It's characteristically vacuous.
Dave Hughes@DHughesy

Yep the Greens doubled down on the most idiotic undemocratic tax hike in history and now they are complaining about the result. Labor last, Greens second last, the only way to get the country back on track.

@fazdogfotog @NannanBay @samanthamaiden Don’t know why you keep referring to 30%. They may be Shaky but fact remains that only ~1%default. The 5% scheme group still have to stump up a min of 5% plus they avoid LMI. Get back to me when 30% actually default but until then let’s hope most are successful new home owners

@fazdogfotog @NannanBay @samanthamaiden 13 out of 300k who have taken up the offer. Yes it’s sad that the 13 had a bad experience. Hopefully in the future they will be in a better position to try again. M/- stress is around 29% but m/- sales still ~1% which shows people prepared adjust spending to get thru hard times.

Cool 13 loan defaults and according to Roy Morgan in January almost a quarter of all mortgage holders are “at risk” of mortgage stress as of before the last rate rise. Sure that’s only 1.3 million mortgage holders. Lovely that only 13 have defaulted. Ps, what of those 13 families? Where are they living now? “No one left behind” eh?🙄

@fazdogfotog @NannanBay @samanthamaiden “A great deal of people teetering on the edge “ Based on what data? A quick search shows that since the 5% scheme started only 13 loans have defaulted and the level of mortgagee sales for all borrowers sits at 1% - 1.2% and has been fairly consistent since 2020 .
