Our warm up/“conditioning” work with football inspired by my conversation with @AdamArchuleta Adam I am quite sure far from perfect but our “Archuleta” period on Friday pre workout will be a staple over the next six weeks and other places moving forward!

1st Field Note Dropping This Friday 27th 🤟🏼🔥 After 20 years on the gym floor, you start to see what actually holds up - and what breaks people. Most of it's simpler than we make it. Field Notes is where I share what's working. Comment GO and I'll send you the first one.

Warmup sets are prior to working sets and vary by athlete. If their target weight is 200 for example, they might do ~8 reps with the bar, then a triple with 135 & 155 before going 5 with 175, 5 with 185, 5 with 195 and then attempt 200 for 5.
Colton Feller@ColtonFeller

@BurnTheLadders Maybe a silly question or answered somewhere previously, but what did the warmup and progression of work sets look like given a particular wave (let’s just say 4x5)?

Depends on how they miss. If it is a close miss they may rest 1 extra minute and repeat the weight. If it is a technical miss and they can identify what they did wrong, then they may repeat it. They could also go down to a weight between set 2 & 3, or just go back to set 2.
John Girton@StrengthCoachG

@BurnTheLadders @casemorrow Maybe a dumb question. If a kid misses their reps on set 3 do they drop weight for 4th set to get the rep max for that day, or just take weight from set 2?

If you know WRESTLING programs that feed the cats, please DM or email me at tony.holler@yahoo.com At least five wrestling coaches have told me they successfully do this, but I can't recall their names/schools. Several wrestling coaches have reached out and want to talk.

@ZacGoodman_ What brand is the box and where were you able to get the foam pad? I appreciate you sharing!

We use a 12” Box with a 6” Foam pad. The foam is very soft so they sink to the bottom. This puts athletes at or below parallel at 12” Box. This is ideal.

@ZacGoodman_ Our kids love box squatting, but I probably don’t use them in our programming nearly enough. What is an appropriate box height/squat depth in your opinion?

Athletes who Box Squat over 2x BW ALWAYS jump high. Assuming it’s… 1. Appropriate Depth/Sized Box 2. High Bar Position 3. Medium-Close Stance 4. Pause on Box This is the best Strength Exercise to push to develop more explosive jumpers✈️📈

1. Wide Feet 2. Toes Out 3. Look straight ahead 4. Hands inside the legs 5. Squat Body to Bar, DON’T lean over to grab it. 6. Break floor, squeeze glutes.

But why? 1. Lateral Force Production 2. Easier to recover from 3. Develops weak adductors, quads, glutes, and low back 4. Greater carryover to top end sprinting 5. Easy to teach

If your youth wrestling coach is cursing at your athletes, you need to find a new room. I just spent a few days at Oklahoma State, one of the most talented rooms in college wrestling. I didn’t hear a single curse word delivered by leadership during practice. The best coaches in the country, coaching the best athletes in the country — with the most on the line. Now ask yourself, if the best coaches aren’t using that type of language with 20-year-olds, does it make sense to use it when addressing your 10-year-old sons and daughters? Negative energy is contagious, and so is the language. It’s tough to build someone up while belittling them at the same time. If you want your kids to be empowered, allow them to be led by coaches in control of their own emotions. Treat your wrestlers with dignity, and you get the most from them. Foul language has no place in youth sports. - JB #thoughtoftheday #alliseeisgoldacademy #relationshipsovermemberships

In my class, students earn 5 daily points. I've started having them self-evaluate their daily performance. Many offer honest reflections, which I log in the gradebook. Some delusional responses lead to an honest conversation fostering accountability. Helping my mentals so far.
