I’m saddened by this morning’s news of a fire at our beloved Tall Timbers that destroyed the historic Beadel House. Tall Timbers is one of the largest employers in District 4 and the World’s leading fire-science institute. The very nature of its existence is to promote and preserve the Red Hills ecosystem that benefits so greatly from prescribed fire. Thankfully, no lives were lost but a lot of history certainly was. The Beadel House was built in 1895 and anyone who had ever been there at sunset on the shores of Lake Iamonia knows what a beautiful and special scene it created. Prayers for the staff and scientists who work there every day and thank you to all of City of Tallahassee Fire Department and Bradfordville Fire & Rescue firefighters who acted swiftly to save some of the artifacts inside. Photos and original post via Tall Timbers: Early this morning a lightning strike at Tall Timbers ignited the historic Beadel House. Despite the efforts of local fire officials, the building, built in 1895, succumbed to flames and is a complete loss. A few historical artifacts were saved, but many from our organization’s history, as well as four staff offices, were lost. Thankfully, no one was injured. We live and work in a fire driven ecosystem. What organization knows better that fire, particularly ones sparked by lightning, is a natural occurrence and is a vital part of our local ecology and is a subject we have studied in depth. “While this is a loss of some of our historic items and the Beadel family house,” said Tall Timbers CEO and President Bill Palmer, “We will press forward and continue to further our mission of conservation and ecological health through the use of prescribed fire.”

I know it hasn't been easy and there is still work to do, but in the end, this WILL be good for our community, our children's future and our quality of life. I'm looking forward to the progress, investment and improved healthcare this partnership will surely bring.

@CommishWelch How do I go about requesting a certain road in KL that needs to be done? They did Bucklake and Copperfield roads not too long ago.

Hey y'all, Deerlake Road is getting some resurfacing done this month on the following areas: Segment 1: Chadwick Way to the dead end. Segment 2: Lilburn Court to the Golden Eagle Guard House. No full road closures are planned for this work, but please use caution in the area as there main be lane closures during the day. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns and we will follow up ASAP. Thank you.

@DataShaun @ChrisSpencerFL I was thinking more like a Hampton Inn but still generally like the idea of building commercial space at the airport. We have to be much more forward thinking.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Who wants to stay at a luxury hotel at the airport? What’s the draw? A leisurely stroll by the wastewater treatment facility? A picnic amongst the city’s solar panel fields? This is another example of the woeful mismanagement of the airport. Focus on the basics: more routes, cheaper fares, more travelers. A luxury hotel? This airport is more hopeless than I thought.

Hey y'all, Starting at 7 AM on Friday, March 13, through Monday, March 23, at 7 PM, weather permitting, there will be road closure of Rhea Road between Thomasville Road and Lawton Chiles Lane. These dates were selected to take advantage of Spring Break and students being out of school next week. The closure is to mill and repave Rhea Road and to install a right turn lane Rhea Road traffic to turn onto Thomasville Road, which is required as a part of the Bradford Hills development. We've also requested an updated timeline on the activation for the new traffic signal and will share that when it is finalized. Thank you.

Hey y'all, On Monday, March 2, from 9 AM to 4 PM there will be a temporary road closure of Miccosukee Rd. between Arendell Way and Thornton Rd. This closure is for crane setup, removal of two trees, and debris cleanup. A detour route is available in the attached graphic. The date is weather dependent and we will share updates if anything changes. Thank you.

Hey Everyone, As we continue to adjust to the new traffic patterns around Velda Dairy Rd. and Thomasville Rd. we wanted to share with you the contact numbers for the City of Tallahassee's traffic management department. The City is supposedly monitoring the lights in real time to make sure that it is flowing but we are hearing reports of delays. Feel free to contact them in real time as well to let them know when it isn’t working correctly. (850) 891-2080 TATMS@talgov.com Thanks.

I appreciate everyone’s frustration with new traffic patterns but I also recognize that I’m not a traffic expert and that there are smart, capable people who’ve dedicated their lives to making these kinds of plans who are doing what they think is the safest and smartest arrangement.

Velda Dairy Road is now open! Despite this morning's report that it was going to be opened by end of day tomorrow, the crews were able to finish today and the road is now reopened. Velda Dairy Road, including the new traffic signal, is now fully operational.

Please let us know of any difficulties you are encountering this morning at the new intersection of Thomasville Rd. and Velda Dairy Rd. We will compile them and pass them along to the City’s traffic engineers and ask for adjustments. Please be patient and use caution in the area until the kinks are worked out. Thank you.

Hey everyone, We are told this morning that the construction on Velda Dairy Road near Rabbit Pond Road will now be complete tomorrow, Thursday, February 26th. This is NOT related to the new traffic light at Thomasville Road and Velda Dairy Road, which is now fully operational. We apologize for this inconvenience. County staff are in constant communication with the developer to ensure this is getting done as quickly as possible. We will continue requesting and sharing updates as this project wraps up. Thank you.
