Did you know the real reason the Commodore PET is called PET? It was inspired by the 1975 Pet Rock craze.
One of the engineers, Andre Souson, saw the silly Pet Rock fad and joked they were building a “pet computer,” a friendly, all-in-one machine people could love. The name stuck.
Later, they backronymed it to Personal Electronic Transactor, and it was also a nod to Jack Tramiel’s wife’s initials.
The 1977 PET 2001 became one of the first true personal computers, part of the legendary “1977 Trinity” alongside the Apple II and TRS-80.
Who knew your childhood rock had tech history ties?

@MuseumCommodore That’s a tough one. I have an Amiga 500+ I play occasionally. Plus a ton of other retro computers, handhelds and consoles.
For modern gaming I have a Switch 2, PC and PlayStation. I’d say I use the PlayStation slightly more than the Switch.

As a big MAD magazine fan, I couldn’t wait to play Spy vs Spy on my Commodore. Sometimes these sorts of conversions from print to computer can be a letdown, but this game wasn’t one of those.
Spy vs Spy II: The Island Caper (1989, Commodore Amiga). What a brilliant sequel to the classic split-screen trap-’em-up, published by Wicked Software!
The Black Spy and White Spy are stranded on a tropical island. You race to collect three missile parts, build deadly traps from sticks and coconuts, and reach the submarine before the volcano erupts.
Side-scrolling outdoor levels, hilarious slapstick deaths, and you simply can’t beat the two-player chaos!
Amiga Action magazine gave it a 72%, but also said: “The graphics and sound are more than adequate, and the games are playable.”
What did you think of it: playable, or awesome fun?
