@jason_howerton @MBurtwrites I've argued with this lady before. She's just a liberal feminist that wants to destroy marriages. She is part of the group that thinks no parts of the Bible apply to women in any way.
Her argument is just "you CAN deprive your husband as long as it's not due to asceticism."

The context was in referring to whether you should force your spouse into a period of abstinence. The answer is no. That's not the only teaching that warns against sexlessness in a marriage.
Sex is great for a marriage and everyone can enjoy it. Paul literally writes, "Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time."
Do not deprive your spouse. Why would a wife want to deprive her husband? I simply do not understand what point you're even trying to make, other than that wives shouldn't be FORCED to have sex, which I agree with of course. But no one in the marriage should be depriving the other.

Here’s the thing about a biblical marriage: this “obligation” is no obligation at all. It’s a desire to please the one with whom you are one flesh with. You take joy in fulfilling the needs of your spouse. Therefore, if there is an unmet physical need in a marriage, one or both people are rebelling against the marriage covenant and therefore God.
You could call this an “obligation,” if you want to be cynical. You could also call it a blessing and an honor. Either way, scripture is VERY clear that withholding sex from your spouse is a big NO.
With these “progressive” Bible “teachers,” you have to pay attention to how they define the terms. “Obligation” is framed in a negative and likened to “abuse” here.
Anyway, we’re done listening to woke watered down Bible teachers.

Brother, I hear you and I don’t think you’re a false teacher. But I’d gently push on the framing.
Paul is answering Corinthians who believed married couples should abstain from sex to be more spiritual. His mutual-obligation language is pastoral pushback on that asceticism, written into a specific situation. Lifting it as a standalone rule about spousal obligation does something Paul wasn’t doing.
And the “are you in authority over the Word?” question, I’d just sit with that one. We’re both interpreting. Every reader is. That’s not rebellion, it’s the nature of the text. Holding our readings with a little humility leaves more room for the Spirit and for each other.

I’ll never forget the one time I looked up a video about how to do the brakes on my truck and as I was watching I thought to myself “this guy is an IFB pastor” and then at the end of the video after finishing he gave a short gospel message.
