However, it is designed as a recreational path, and requires many bike riders to go far out of their way to get where they need to go, and is not viable for shoppers or most bike commuters.

The best stimulus for Washington DC to do and that doesn't cost tax payers more money is to move federal agencies to real America. Put the FDA in Topeka Kansas. Put Dep of Ag Agriculture in Missouri. There's a 100 agencies. Spread them around and stimulate the local economy

Maybe if violent protestors did not have a habit of intentionally disrupting normal life by walking in the streets, which are intended for vehicular traffic, and destroying property, no one would feel the need to enable them the way the city is doing. Nor would local government offices and private businesses be openly and actively relocating their employees to alternate locations and/or specifically encouraging them to work from home, specifically because violent or disorderly protests are expected. That’s the disgrace.

Technically, the points you stated are true. On the other hand, it is disgraceful that cities now regularly anticipate potential rioting as the result of certain grand jury decisions, verdicts, etc. And, instead of suppressing such riots with appropriate actions—including force when needed— the cities of some failed leftist cities, such as Akron, have decided, instead, to cave into the demands of the rioters. Giving into the demands of the ignorant mob is pathetic and only leads to further problems.
