OUTRAGEOUS: GOP House Speaker Kevin McCarthy wants to institute work requirements for people to receive their Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP benefits in exchange for not crashing the global economy.
"What work requirements do is help people get a job. Every data point shows that it helps people move forward. So...the public wants it, both parties want it...the idea that they want to put us into a default because they will not work with on that is ludicrous."
Reporter: "You're talking about SNAP or which program are you talking about specifically?"
McCarthy: "Look, we're talking about all of the programs."
Americans have worked all of their lives, having their hard-earned money withdrawn from their paychecks, only to be forced to work in order to collect the benefits that are theirs? THAT is ludicrous, and it's a naked betrayal of the American people by the Republican party.
Look at it this way: House Republicans have been drawing a paycheck this entire year but still haven't done any work for Americans.
Drop a 💙 if you oppose having to work in order to collect a Social Security check.

@mmcclure88 @shannonrwatts Absolutely, it’s a ridiculous comparison. Driver have verifiable training, pass test and are required to have insurance… having ANY of those in place for gun ownership would be an improvement

@shannonrwatts If anyone could drive a car without having a license, the number of car deaths would increase five fold

No parent in america - regardless of political party - will ever accept the deaths of their children “a prudent deal.” These obscene tragedies are turning more and more Americans into gun sense voters.

@caseypost42 @shannonrwatts Exactly, I was wondering if he is offering his loved ones for the “worth it” deaths…

@tedcruz In 1975, only 1% of schools reported having cop on-site. By 2018, about 58% of schools reported having a police presence. Below is a graph of numbers killed in school shootings in that time. The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is to prevent them from getting a gun.

This morning I sent my kids to school with a pit in my stomach.
I wanted to keep them home.
Wanted to keep them close.
Wanted to keep them safe.
But I can’t give in to the fear.
I can’t let them see that I’m afraid.
And I don’t want them to BE afraid.
So I sent them.
And just as I have done ever since the massacre at Sandy Hook, I made sure to memorize their outfits.
In case of the horrific unthinkable.
School shootings have been their reality for as long as they’ve been in school.
They are 9 and 13 years old.
And this is all they’ve ever known.
So it bears repeating -
That this is not normal.
And it is not ok.

@MattPleasant But are they held to the same standards as public schools? Facilities for accepting ALL students, including physically and mentally challenged? Do they have to answer to state graduation requirements? Do teachers have to be certified?
English

@MattPleasant @ghost_ellis Then you need to clarify what “Charter schools” you specifically mean.
