I’ve been repaying my #studentloan for 10 years. I graduated owing £26,000. Today I owe £28,000. I pay £190 a month through my salary, but £220 is added in monthly interest. I’m paying every month, yet the balance keeps increasing. How is that fair?

The Salford mosque has been operating without planning for at least 6 years, and they've had to apply for permission now. This is what I asked for funding for in April (see below) and it’s been successful. The second half of the campaign is to resist this retrospective planning application which the Council have “advised” the mosque to submit. This mosque would have 4,200 square feet floorspace, right across this building, and might come to dominate the area. It would have no parking. Pretty much all day every day: “The operation times, Monday to Sunday is; 05:00 – 09:00, 13:00 – 14:30, then 17:00 – 21:00”. We’ve won the first leg of this fight. I hope you can help me win the second leg and close this place down. So I’m asking for £2,000 to defeat this place. I’m sorry to ask so often, but the demographics have turned a corner thanks to the politicians and these applications are thick and fast now. But I'd rather ask than give up because of the numbers. A follow-up that’s raising questions in Harrow… After two enforcement officers were filmed threatening a man in footage that went viral, Harrow Council said it had taken the matter seriously and that both officers no longer worked for its contractor, Kingdom. My parents, both pensioners, were charged £850 by an emergency plumber last night. They have British Gas HomeCare, but they couldn’t get anyone out to them quickly enough. Their toilet was overflowing and starting to flood the house, so they called an emergency plumber. They have another toilet, so the immediate emergency was the flooding. The water could potentially have been isolated and a quote provided before any repair work was carried out. Instead, the work was done immediately and they were charged £850. My dad was also sent a series of text messages he had to respond to during the emergency. As far as I could tell, they didn’t appear to contain any obvious company branding, address or identifying information. Fuming on their behalf. Can’t help feeling they’ve been taken advantage of. Is this normal practice? And if not, is there anything we can do about it now?
