Data itself is not yet a commodity so yes but data platforms are basically a commodity with race to the bottom economics —> experts have near 0 switching cost between platforms —> labs are platform agnostic (only care that benchmark goes brr ^^) Low barriers to entry + incentive misalignment between labeling platforms creates constant down pressure on margins. great to be a brain, tough to be a consciousness extractor, great to get extracted consciousness

@mo_battah The capital allocated to tier 2 and 3 cities is like an order of magnitude less than tier 1. You’re just making it harder on yourself

I would agree here on the school point Stanford has Berkley MIT has Harvard but also these cities are generally known to be capital attractive (Venture Capital technically originated from Boston) and most of the startup effects you see are the culmination of large capital nodes and bottoms up hacker culture vs Georgia tech's historical relevance as a trade school which heavily influences all of its downstream culture to fit more inline with producing worker bees

@ConsumerRick @catboosted Eh. It’s probably its location in the South and a lack of other, nearby elite schools so it suffers from a lack of agglomeration effects.

the modern robotics infrastructure stack: - simulation and testing (NVIDIA Isaac, Gazebo, MuJoCo) - connectivity and comms (Wi‑Fi/5G/LTE/Starlink VPN backhaul) - fleet management and monitoring (Formant, Open‑RMF integrations) - hardware abstraction and drivers (ROS 2, micro‑ROS, vendor SDKs - edge compute and onboard AI (NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm RB series) - deployment and OTA updates (Ubuntu Core, Balena, Airbotics) - safety, compliance, and kill switches (mostly custom built) - visualisation and replay (Foxglove, Rerun, RViz) - CV/ML model training and labelling (Roboflow, Scale AI) - data upload from robot to cloud (Alloy) - data logging, storage and management (mostly S3, Alloy) – data pipelines and model delivery (custom ETL, CI/CD, registries) - observability and root cause analysis (metrics, traces, Alloy) - the AI-native data layer with MCP/API (Alloy)

@yashdulla you’re always playing a game, there is baseline always a game it’s how humans work your self selection, imo, is a function of pain tolerance raw iq leadership (eq) with this you either choose the game you play or your game is selected for you. most people in sf lack 1&3

Not to jinx it but sf could actually become a major cultural hub. There’s a bubbling scene of folks who actually care about cultural production. If the spirit of execution that exists in the tech world gets channeled in the right way it could be really exciting.
