@cryptodavidw Very cool but it definitely seems like a different security assumption. What prevents the multisig from decrypting your balance whenever it wants or is compelled to? Also, it seems like the multisig can effectively censor transactions.

I'm always amazed at how simple the FHEVM makes encrypted ERC-20 tokens: you just get these new encrypted int (euint) types (which implicitly come with a ZKP that they correctly encrypted a value within the type's range) and then you can operate on them freely. For example, here the TFHE.lte computes a boolean that indicates if the amount is <= the balance of the account (both are encrypted remember!). Then, to use the result in the clear, a call to TFHE.decrypt is called which ends up triggering some threshold decryption (slow/blocking unfortunately IIUC). And that's it, in 5 lines of code you implemented encrypted tokens. That shows how simple the FHE or MPC paradigm is compared to ZK.

This is one of those historical times where privacy tech is going to be more important than ever. Self custody and privacy counterbalance centralized power.

@divine_economy It’s simple. Grants should go to teams who allocate capital well. A retro grant is unrestricted capital allocation. In all likelihood, the team that receives the grant will be an efficient way to convert the capital into value.

i feel like i’m missing something—shouldn’t grants go to promising projects that need support in order to succeed? no shade to anyone who got funding, am genuinely curious the rationale is it to try to bribe other successful projects to build on your chain?

i mean this as an honest question: what is the purpose of retroactive funding? what is the objective in rewarding extremely well-financed VC-backed corporations based on how successful they already are? who benefits from this?
