Seen a lot of conversation about how predatory the American medical system is.
So I will weigh in.
I ended up going to the ER about 2 weeks ago for crippling pain. Turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst. I was there for MAYBE 4 hours.
My bill? $13,500 dollars.
Because I'm uninsured (by choice, that shit is a SCAM), the hospital dropped my bill down to $8,100 and some change as an "uninsured" discount.
For starters, $13,500 for a 4 hour hospital visit is insane as it is.
But the fact the hospital can wipe $5,000 off the bill "just because" should show you how utterly fucked this system is.
And to be clear - $8,000 is still an absolutely insane sum of money when all these people did was scan my stomach and give me some pain killers.
On my itemized bill, my CT scan was 7k. The iodine they used was $900. Just being in the ER room alone was $2,500.
We phoned the hospital to haggle. They dropped the price by $20.
Normal people can't survive this shit. I do okay and $8,000 is still an INSANE chunk of money out of my savings.
Anyone who argues this isn't a disgusting, predatory system is crazy. And it is even crazier that Americans accept this.
And for those of you who argue this is the free market, I need you to be quiet. There can never be a true free market here when government and insurance have their creepy little fingers in this pie.
People shouldn't go bankrupt trying to pay medical bills. This has to change.

Many people believe the fantasy that getting rid of prop 13, will reduce their own property taxes
The truth is that politicians would simply take the additional revenue & spend it. I believe there are around 90 propositions statewide to increase some kind of tax this year

If we raised the property tax bill on the blue lot to match the others on a $/SF basis, the overall tax bill for the houses/businesses would go down. People who want to see lower property taxes should be all over this!

Dems losing their minds because Trump wants to finally make the DC reflecting pool beautiful instead of a mosquito infested swamp with never ending globs of algae and duck poop. I ran there every night for years and the photos from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial didn’t reflect how disgusting it actually was. Not sure if it’s possible to keep this large pool of water clean in the DC sun with birds in it but I’m delighted someone wants to try. Don’t put your culture and future in the hands of people (Democrats) who love degeneracy and filth. These are the people who still reminisce about how great it was when Times Square was all prn theaters and drug addicts and trash. They love squalor. I do not.

San Francisco restaurant removes tipping from checks. The owner understands that people are tired of the tipping culture, so he doesn’t allow tipping, taxes or service fees in his establishment and instead pays his employees $40 per hour
Now, here’s the catch: every meal will cost $140 per person. The price is all inclusive and nothing will be added to that price.
I know when we go to a nice restaurant, it can easily cost $140+ per person and then add tip, taxes, and service fee as well.
Do you think this is a better deal or a word game with tips, taxes and service fees? What are your thoughts on this?

1.5 million Californians just signed a petition to tax the state's 200 billionaires 5%.. one time.. to fund hospitals, schools and food programs..
they needed 875,000 signatures.. they got nearly double..
and California's own governor is fighting against it..
the billionaires live in the same state where hospitals are closing and people can't afford groceries.. and the one person who's supposed to represent the people just told the New York Times he's fighting to protect them..
