On this day in 1952, Dr. Paul Zoll reported in NEJM the first description of two patients whose hearts were resuscitated using electric charges. Today, automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) are used everywhere to save lives. Learn more: nej.md/GUw39W

Femoral lines (clinical practice) paradox: ICU/ED world: Oh no, we shouldn't do it, femorals are SO dirty. If we place them, we remove them 3 ds later because we feel guilty & administrators yell ECMO world: let's put 2 huge cannulas in the groin & leave them there for 3 weeks

I’m also going to disable G-GWAC for now! But would be really nice if someone who knows why this is happening could reach out to me. Can you help tag anyone that might know this? Why is the unique transponder code of G-GWAC (405F81) still sending signals from aboard G-WASC?

Ernst Mulders@ernstmul

@coryoconnor96 @AirAssistApp Nah it’s not a glitch on the ads-b side of things I think. G-gwac’s transponder code is actively in use, all separate ads-b networks are picking up on this. I’m pretty sure they’ve put the transponder into the reserve helicopter. So both of them are sending signals.

@Ask_foradoctor @DrRJWebb It’s taking the debate to Twitter is not collegial and this is a small percentage of nurses, not the majority. Talking to the conference organiser is the solution as many conferences do tiered fees.

@DrRJWebb @Ask_foradoctor It’s an extreme disingenuous example to create sensationalism and is not collegial. You also need to take into consideration similar nurses don’t get study leave for conferences.

@Coxy997 @Ask_foradoctor I used an extreme example. You’ll see the hat it’s not however unreasonable at all levels. I can’t tell you about everyone else’s study budget. I’ll tell you about mine: this wouldn’t be covered.

@DrRJWebb @Ask_foradoctor You didn’t say 8a, your example was an 8c. You also haven’t shared the study budgets applicable to doctors which is not reflected in nurses.

@Coxy997 @Ask_foradoctor ACPs are band 8a in most trusts (have a look at NHS Jobs). That’s £50952-£57349. Band 5-6 is £28407-£42618. These are doctor pay scales. Not really disingenuous or ‘not considered’.

@DrRJWebb @Ask_foradoctor This is really not a considered comparison, when you will find 1 or maybe 2 8c ACPs in any NHS hospital. It’s your band 5 nurses that are the main attendees who with 3 - 7 years experience are on £30 - 34k without a study budget.

@Ask_foradoctor Quite. Band 8C Senior/Consultant ACP with 5+ years experience: £81138. But they’ll pay £110 per day less than a doctor, with salary range £32398-£63152. Make it make sense.
