@coderChoren @nafonsopt They must've used it long enough to know that glibc is completely awful, which is very true.

There is so much wrong information. Have you even used linux for more than 3 minutes? I used it for years and not once did I care about X11/wayland until I decided to. Except for games, there is almost nothing you can’t either run directly or find an open source alternative. I never compiled anything, because package managers, you know? Go and get real experience with a tool before saying its trash

For anybody saying "Just use Linux", you need to realise that Linux is worse than Windows. Windows has all the bloat, and while you can have Linux without any of that you still don't have tools like Remedybg, RAD Debugger and Super Luminal. Once you have such tools, then Linux is a suitable app development environment. But _it is still trash_ because of the whole Linux model of you needing to compile everything. The fact that you cannot run an app built using a newer version of glibc is an insane decision. I shouldn't have to upgrade my whole machine in order to run something built on a newer version. I shouldn't be worried that an upgrade will break my machine. I shouldn't be forced to compile things from scratch to work on my machine. I shouldn't be forced to install N packages, I just want self contained binaries I can just download and run. I shouldn't be forced to develop with an old distro to have "max glibc compatibility". I shouldn't have to worry about X11 / Wayland / Window Managers. I shouldn't have to worry about asking the user to select a folder, display a dialog or show notifications. Linux is such a huge waste of potential, if they got their shit together they would completely obliterate Windows. I first got into Linux in 2000, and even back then there was this "it will take over Windows any time now!". It's been _26 years_! The same way I'd pay quite a lot for Windows without any bloat, I'd be willing to pay for a distro that gives me all this.

@MaplePeache That makes absolutely no sense. Everyone knew NFTs had no actual use and the metaverse never even launched. AI is here and is useful for tons of work.

@virtual_method @IanCutress You almost certainly can choose how much each pixel gets affected by this, as that‘s the most obvious simple shader you could do on top of this. So you almost certainly could for example turn it off for faces if you don‘t like how it changes those.

@IanCutress You’re missing the point: you can precisely control tesselation and displacement - exactly how much, where, and how. That’s where the “art” resides. People are (rightfully, imho) concerned about how controllable this thing is.

"It changes the models! It affects the art!" So does tesselation. We've had that since DX11. x.com/IanCutress/sta…

"Hey, here's a demo that's still early and unoptimized, coming out end of year hopefully. We're still getting it to work and this is an early alpha." "We shoved it onto two separate GPUs to ensure the base game runs fine and the DLSS works well enough for the demo." "We have 5090s, so why not run it on those. We could have used two GT730s for the lolz, and you would have asked why, but we had 5090s on the desk." Everyone starts screaming 🎶OMG 🎶 🎶 IT REQUIRES 🎶 🎶 TWO 5090s!!1!🎶 🎶 WONT SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE CHILDREN 🎶 I really can't fathom the dumb. You know console games are made on dev kits that are vastly faster than the consoles they run on. It's well documented, especially in early cycle design. To anyone that claims I'm pro NVIDIA or I'm not taking people's complaints seriously, go look at my previous NVIDIA tweets. I don't get passes for events. I find issues with their messaging all the time. This is just one where seemingly most of the TechTube space couldn't be bothered to apply the most basic critical thinking, or didn't ask a basic question or two. Instead, let's jump straight to drama and have it as the cornerstone of the outrage and content. Because clicks, I guess. There are a thousand other things to mention about DLSS5. I gave them a ton of feedback when I spoke to the engineers at the demo in person (most of the time it looks like a repositioning of the light source more than anything else, it was shown on games that aren't that high in graphics fidelity (I'm actually disappointed in modern AAA if this is what we have), half the time it looks simply like the additional tesselation we saw in DX11, and it can ignore a number of doubly-relected shadows). Here's the kicker though. NVIDIA has thousands of employees working on its gaming portfolio. I've seen so many people complain 'why did they work on this when they could have worked on other stuff'. They ARE working on other stuff. You might be able to only think about one feature at a time (make sure you remember to breathe), but these things are all developed in parallel with other features. If anyone has enough money to have teams invested in researching and developing a bucket load of features, it's NVIDIA. Also, you can turn the feature off. Imagine complaining about a TV channel you don't watch, just because it's on the guide and the cable service promoted it and needed two 8K TVs to do so because it was early 3D. I'll say it again. I really can't fathom the dumb. Or rather I can, and I'm just amazingly disappointed on this hardware critique. I'll get backlash from other media just for this post, sure, that much is certain (and thanks for obliging, much appreciated). But perhaps I should just bring @ctnzr on the show for an interview later in the year. He's a really cool dude anyway.

@Dinklegaming @Senninsage When they say materials they don‘t mean that they change the actual materials and instead they do more complex lighting calculations on them like proper subsurface scattering that might‘ve been too expensive to do otherwise

It's not an AI filter, which you would know if you took even the smallest bit of time to read and learn about it, but where would the clicks come from for doing so?
MrMattyPlays@G27Status

@NVIDIAGeForce LOL. We've reached the point of diminishing returns in game visuals where companies have convinced themselves that some freaky AI filter that slaps an artistic direction in the face is progress worth sharing.

@SMetaldave64 It "infuses pixels", which are 2D. It's recreating 3D lighting from pixels, which requires a lot of guessing to say the least.

"DLSS 5 only changes lighting" False. Nvidia themselves says that it uses "Photoreal" Lighting AND Materials: nvidianews.nvidia.com/news/nvidia-dl… Most watched the cringe DF video, when it should have been Nvidia explaining. Saying DLSS 5 can be used as an AI filter is actually correct.

@LokiJarson @pcgamer He's not, it fucking draws vans wrong in GTA V and that's a 13 year old game. It isn't referencing anything but the surface image; adds facial details not at all present on model, as well as changes and adds lighting that doesn't exist on scene. You're a louse.

There seems to be some confusion about DLSS 5. Based on available information, it does not alter underlying character models or geometry. Differences seen in comparison screenshots can be explained by movement between captures when toggling DLSS on or off.

@HayDawg2006 @Big__TeeJ @DaReelSebas @Kneckt @FonzGaming It's most probable (though I wish Nvidia would release some more technical details) that they trained this by simply rendering the same scene with "Unreal" and a production grade offline renderer, with no changes to any assets, so it really focuses on improving lighting.

@pheenoh So unlike your average gen AI model, this one almost certainly (though I wish they would clarify) is trained by diffing the same scenes with real time and offline rendering, with no changes to any assets.

@pheenoh I hate to disagree, cause it seems to be a model that's specifically only trained to change the lighting. So as long as the game devs have some control over the changed lighting (which at least supposedly they do), then I don't see it as a bad thing.

This guy blocked me. I have no idea why since I haven't interacted with him before. Anyway, let's assume that this Legends: Galar rumor is real. I like how each Legends game experiments with new mechanics. Arceus is perfect, but they decided to keep changing the formula.
