@jonbrooks I try to tell my boomer coworkers about this. No, you cant keep charging them the same outrageous price. If you type the part number in google the first thing that comes up is the same part for 80% less.

Everyone keeps saying “go into the trades.” I get it — but here’s my real experience: Called a local company to fix an icemaker on a 2007 fridge that still runs great. Tech shows up. Takes a picture. Can’t fix it. Charges $99 just for showing up. Then quotes me $1,300 to replace the icemaker. So I do what everyone can do now: I ChatGPT the model number. In 2 seconds: • Exact replacement part • Direct phone number • Cost: $300 Installation? 2 screws. 10 minutes. I’ll do it myself. Same thing happened with my pool heater: Repair guy quoted $2,000. I bought the part directly and fixed it myself for under $200. The problem isn’t the trades. It’s that information asymmetry is gone — and some businesses haven’t realized it yet.

You're swinging at phantoms when you swing at Millennials. Our generation has no more power or influence than yours does. And you're arguably swinging at phantoms with Gen X as well. They were the canary in the coal mine when early Boomers made them all latchkey kids.
weetard@DIET_RIOT_07

"zoomers fell for that play" yeah we fell from the top of a set of stairs everyone above us pushed us down boomers sold us out before we were born for comfort which made many millennials similarly complacent but sure, an entire generation is just swinging at phantoms for nothing

POV: You thought the “Under 2” free flight rule was a suggestion. Watching this airline supervisor stand her ground is oddly satisfying. If you can’t prove the age, you pay the fare. Period. The way she handled the "call the hospital" bluff? Professionalism at its peak. Southwest really said: “Receipts or a seat."

The essence of the Girldad phenomenon. Ramsey usually gives tough (and warranted) advice to people with debt problems. But when a guy makes the same demands on his gf, Ramsey goes full girldad and rips into the guy for having sensible standards. This says debt is only a guy’s problem. A girl is fine to have massive amounts of it and no serious plan to pay it off. It’s a MAN’s job to take care of it

Dave Ramsey tells a nurse to dump her boyfriend after he refuses to propose until she pays off $90K in debt Caller: "I’m a 26 year old nurse with $90K in student loans. My boyfriend makes $250K a year, but he won’t propose until I’m completely debt free" Dave: "Dump him. He’s making you prove your worth based on money. You’re having to buy your way into this relationship" "The No. 1 cause of divorce in North America today is money fights and money problems and guess what this is? This is a money fight"

@John05591910584 @yonann If the roles were reversed he’d be saying the guy was a loser that needs to pull him self up by the bootstraps before he deserves her. Typical “girl dad” behavior

@yonann Dave knows damn well that if his daughter were about to marry a man who was deep in debt he would discourage her from marrying him. He’d a total hypocrite on this one. He says money problems cause divorce but then expects this guy to ignore this woman’s serious money problems.

Is it not somewhat reasonable to feel like things are trending in a bad direction if your neighbors under 40 are doctors and lawyers and your neighbors over 50 are former teachers and truck drivers
Conor Sen@conorsen

This is a subset of the affordability debate but I think there are a fair number of youngish Americans with $200-250k household incomes who feel like that should afford a nicer lifestyle than it actually can in top 10 metros (in part because retirees still have the good houses).

The Rosetta Stone was used a piece of cement on a fortification before the French found it and realized the magnitude of their discovery. The Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs went untranslated for 1400 before a Frenchman deciphered them. The modern day “Egyptians” wouldn’t even know half of the ancient Egyptian history they pretend is theirs if it wasn’t for British and French historians who documented and translated it. Thanks to them they now marvel at being inheritors of a great and ancient civilization. Now ask yourself, how many more artifacts of ancient civilizations we’ve lost to time because the supposed “descendants” couldn’t be fucked to see their inherent value and preserve them? If it wasn’t for the British museum we’d probably see Tutankhamens cock hanging off a rack in some carpet merchants stall. Thank God for it and may not a single artifact ever be returned to Egypt.

For the son, reselling piss-stained rugs For the daughter, 3k/month findomination
Brandon Doyle@Brandondoyle

This is my son. He is almost 16 and wants a vehicle. I refuse to buy him one and told him he needs to pay for it himself. He got a job as a rec basketball league referee and quickly realized how long it would take to save up enough money to get a $3k car making $12/hour. Then I showed him some cooler $6k options on Bring a Trailer and he got the itch to make more money. I gave him countless ideas to pursue. He wasn't feeling any of them. Then I decided to show him some podcast episodes from @mhp_guy (he's listened to some from Chris before and was a fan). No ideas were really hitting home until he heard an episode between Chris and @ShannonJean about reselling. He fell in love. So I showed him a few more and he was convinced that that was the route he should take. We started browsing B-Stock and then realized we need a state tax license and some other stuff so we got that all set up. Then we browsed some more. Endless deals. We settled on buying 115 rugs at an average of $13/rug after shipping. They're all Costco returns. Various sizes, some in better condition than others. He now has to figure out how to sell all these through my Facebook Marketplace account. I won't be helping him at all, other than answering questions and casually giving him strategic ideas here and there. If he can sell the rugs at an average price of $35 (keep in mind some are brand new and are 10' x 14' large), he'll make $2500 in profit. Then we can start car shopping :). P.S. Chris and Shannon - thanks for the motivation!!!

Have you tried lowering your standards even further and letting society and everyone around you grind your ego down to dust until there's nothing left? You should start a gratitude journal the real problem is you're very entitled and not grateful enough
