@DrDisco8 Meine absolut liebste Indy-Story. Atmosphäre von hier bis zum Mond. Die charmanteste Love Interest. Die detailverliebte Backstory zu Atlantis. Worldbuilding durchgespielt. Es ist schlicht nicht in Worte zu fassen, welchen Eindruck dieses Spiel 1992 bei einem hinterlassen hat.

Für mich noch immer das großartigste Computerspiel in diesem Genre. Lifetime. Kein Einziges konnte ihm davor/danach das Wasser reichen. PS.: Ja Ja. Monkey Island, dies das. Indie Atlantis trotzdem Bestes für mich.

Miami Vice (2006) gets written off way too easily. Under the messy release backlash is a gritty, tactile Michael Mann thriller with bold digital photography and an icy, committed vibe.

Something that often gets missed in all this, apart from @LadiesOfReddit “dinergoth” discourse, is how this is so concentrated in the lower class. It seems to be happening not in our major left wing urban centers, who you might otherwise think would be most inclined to it for ideological reasons, but in flyover country. In the home towns you go back to on your summers home from your fancy college, you see your third quartile friend wearing cat ears and long sleeves with thumb holes behind the grocery checkout. The elites seem to unleash these deviations from normality, but let them pass by without effect, while the lower class gets one shotted by it, having no immunity. Like picking up smoking when celebrities who would never touch cigarettes pretend to on TV.

For the first 2/3 they asked all the right questions and then they pussied out with „muh, incel wimin beater was an ass all along“. Didn‘t help that Duvall‘s character was super unlikeable.

Watched The Thomas Crown Affair, the remake with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo, last night for the first time in years and it felt like a transmission from an alien planet. 10/10.

Both. If you think either one of them is "the bad guy", you've failed to understand the Hellenic pagan mindset. They didn't share the Christianity-derived vision of every fight as a proxy war between ultimate good (God) and ultimate evil (Satan). They thought of war as a clash between tribes over a conflict of interest. Each of these men was an ideal of masculine virtue, fighting for the cause of his tribe. Which is what heroes did. Modern Christians think that wars shouldn't happen, because everyone should be on the side of God, which is one of the two sides. Hellenic pagans thought that war would happen, because tribes and nations inevitably have conflicting interests. So, in their worldview, it was entire possible for two righteous, virtuous, admirable heroes to make war against each other.

Wie kann man sich selbst UND seinen Kindern das Leben so schwer machen?

@JosephKahn Could be that there's a lot of overlap between Madonna and Gaga and the new generation simply prefers Gaga (ties into the current fad theory). Could also be that Madonna fans don't want to talk about anything she's done post-2012. The Super Bowl was essentially the end.

My 14-year-old daughter does not know who Madonna is, yet she knows who Prince, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson are. There are a couple ways to look at this, but I'm going to single out my main theory - her audience that made her the biggest star in the world at her prime were two main groups: Girls and Gays. These two groups have the fastest generational turnovers. Every group revamps itself and sets up new icons, but girls switch teams with higher frequency. They dropped Elvis for the Beatles, the Beatles for the Stones, Bieber for Billie Eilish. They will decide someone is now old or not relevant while guys still listen to their Metallica Master of Puppets album. There are also internal dynamics where a girl does not want to listen to her mother's music but a boy thinks his father's music is cool. As to the Gays, pop culture is their Super Bowl and they're always looking for the next thing. Obviously I'm talking in generalities in every single person is their own snowflake, but that's my overall read on it. This group can ramp up heat on an artist and then in an instant move on to the next. For the record I love Madonna and she's a huge influence on my work. New generations will rediscover her eventually.

@JTAlexander_ The sincerity is the most important part. There is never any ‚wink wink, we know this is stupid‘ or breaking of the fourth wall with these. Same goes for the rom-coms of the era. Major reason why I hate things like Guardians of the Galaxy.

What I miss most about old films is the effort and sincerity. Even some of the technically-not-very-good movies of the 90s and 00s still clearly had a lot put into them. Almost every film today feels like theater kids just playing around in front of a green screen. The Mummy, The Rock, Armageddon, and Broken Arrow: These movies are—from a critical perspective—not very good. But as viewers, we love them. We don't love them like some people love The Room, but we love them for what they are at face value. They aren't fun-bad, they are so-fun-they-are-legitimately-good-even-if-campy-and-silly. This is only possible because they take themselves seriously and present themselves seriously. It doesn't matter that the plot is absurd, it doesn't matter that the writing is campy. By taking themselves seriously, with the effort put in by the cast and crew, we can take them seriously, too. There are so few movies coming out over the past decade I can seriously say this about.

Donald Trump hatte seinen Tweet abgeschickt als längst klar war, dass die australische Regierung nach der Hymnen-Geschichte und den Drohungen aus Teheran alles versucht hatte, um den Spielerinnen und Teammitgliedern ein Asyl in Australien zu ermöglichen. Sein Asylangebot war eine zynische Farce, wie jeder wissen konnte, der nicht nur Trumps Einlassungen verfolgt. Trump wusste, dass die Australier nicht einfach dem ganzen Team die Ausreise verweigern konnte. Sie konnte sich nur bemühen, allen Teammitgliedern die Möglichkeit eines Asylantrages anzubieten. Das hatte sie auch schon lange getan. Trump wusste, dass es nicht um das ganze Team gehen konnte, wie er in seinem Tweet behauptet. Oder er hätte es wissen müssen. Das weiß man bei ihm nie so genau. Er glaubt ja auch, dass die Iraner über amerikanische Tomahawks verfügen. Die Australier haben übrigens tatsächlich welche ... . Für die australische Regierung ist das ein Problem gewesen. Sie musste alles tun, um das Problem auf eine möglichst diplomatische Art und Weise zu lösen. In der Golfregion leben viele Australier, sicherlich auch welche Im Iran. Zudem steht sie wie alle westlichen Regierungen seit Kriegsbeginn unter innen- und außenpolitischem Druck. Trump hätte die Klappe halten können anstatt diesen angesichts der Umstände skandalösen Tweet abzusetzen. Dass die australische Regierung deswegen keinen diplomatischen Großkonflikt mit dem völlig unberechenbar gewordenen Trump riskiert, ist verständlich. Damit kommen wir zu meinem Tweet, der ein solches Interesse ausgelöst hat. Es war klar, dass iranische Teammitglieder zurückkehren werden. Niemand von uns kann beurteilen, ob die unter Druck oder freiwillig gehen, höchstens die australische Regierung aus Gesprächen. Sie wird das aber nicht mitteilen, um die Betroffenen nicht zu gefährden. Sie werden auch alles getan haben, um vom Iran Zusagen bzgl. der Sicherheit dieser Teammitglieder zu bekommen. Ob das hilft? Das weiß niemand von uns. Diese zurückkehrenden Iraner kommen in ein Heimatland zurück, das seit elf Tagen aus der Luft auf Befehl von Trump angegriffen wird. Ich will das hier nicht politisch diskutieren. Das ist ein anderes Thema. Er spricht von Tötungen. In der Tat: Sie werden vom Regime bedroht und von den Luftangriffen. Da beißt die Maus keinen Faden ab. Aber Trump interessiert sich dafür nicht die Bohne. Er spielt seine zynischen Spielchen auf Kosten der Betroffenen. Eines habe ich in den mehr als zehn Jahren Beschäftigung mit Trump gelernt: Man muss immer unterscheiden zwischen dem, was er sagt, und dem, was er meint. Bisher war das noch erträglich, er ruderte schnell zurück, wenn er Gegenwind spürte. Aber seit Kriegsausbruch legt er einen Zynismus über Menschenleben an den Tag, der an Bösartigkeit grenzt. Und genau deshalb habe ich den Tweet so drastisch formuliert. Ihm sind nämlich die zurückkehrenden iranischen Teammitglieder egal. Die sind nach ihrer Rückkehr ganz normale Zivilistinnen, die ganz sicher keine amerikanischen Stützpunkte beschießen. Was ich einräumen muss: Ich hätte nicht gedacht, dass er solche Reaktionen auslöst. Aber Social Media funktioniert durch Verkürzung und Skandalisierung. Das habe ich natürlich auch gemacht. Aber es war umso interessanter, sich die Reaktionen anzusehen. Ich kann auch versichern, dass mein Gesundheitszustand gut ist, außer dass ich zuviel rauche ... . Jetzt kann jeder gerne weiterhin seine Meinung sagen. Wir sind ja schließlich noch ein freies Land, so habe ich gehört.
