@rightblend The nature of being a history instructor is that I don't judge immigration by the bubble that followed Covid. We had two years where immigration levels were too high. Those levels have been rolled back. Overall, immigration has built Canada and will continue to build it.

@DaleBarbour It's not a conspiracy theory that mass immigration has caused enormous harm to this country both to its identity and to its economic prosperity. You must be a shit professor.

It is not possible to solve Canada's crises without a major reversal to immigration policies of the last 10 plus years. It is not possible to solve the healthcare crisis, the jobs crisis, the housing crisis, the crime crisis, or the cost of living crisis otherwise.

@sarobertsonca If the Liberals promise one pipeline, we will promise two. We will not only reduce gas taxes, but provide a stipend for everyone who drives.

Toronto needs to step up and put a stop to Ford's plans. Toronto's waterfront works because it has managed to strike a balance between industrial use, commercial use, housing, and recreational use. Scaling up Billy Bishop will break that balance.
Gil Meslin@g_meslin

While the Ford government hasn’t shared many details about the plans for Billy Bishop, they have revealed the scale of ambition - 10M passengers per year. This is the parking, circulation, and drop-off infrastructure at YEG, which handles about 8M annual passengers:

@DavidColetto I don't think anyone believes Donald Trump wasn't a pivotal factor in the last election. Declaring a trade war and talking about annexation will do that. Now? I think Carney gets credit for where Liberals stand and Poilievre gets credit for where the CPC sit.

The US didn't count on Britain actually leaning in to keep the BNA territory and only certain sections of the US were committed to the War. If there had been more US interest, less British interest, and no Indigenous interest the war would have ended differently. 3/3

The area south of the Great Lakes was still in a state of flux and Britain's Indigenous allies saw the war as a chance to keep a space of independence between British territory and US territory. 2/

If we're being honest; 1812 was a mess. The US was angry at Britain for press ganging its sailors and blocking trade during the Napoleonic wars. It wanted to punish Britain and Canada was the closest target. 1/
Kevin A. Bryan@Afinetheorem

One other point on 1812: I didn't realize until I moved to Canada that Canadians believe the US goal in the war was to conquer Canada, and that the US started the war. Neither are what the most compelling history suggests! The war was about Atlantic trade and impressment.

@nationalpost Maple MAGAs storming in here to announce: A) This is not true! They've been making three times the trips to the US and are always surrounded by other Canadians B) This is happening because Canadians are too poor to travel (despite travel to international locations being up.)

Let's be clear about something: mainstream media has never been conservative-friendly. Not today, not 10 years ago, not 30 years ago when I started in this business. That's not new information. And it certainly didn't stop conservatives from forming government repeatedly when we earned it. So no, media attacks are not proof of relevance. They're background noise we've always operated in. More importantly conservatism in Canada is alive and well. But let's actually define what that means, because it gets thrown around too loosely. True conservatism is fiscal responsibility: balanced budgets, lower taxes, getting government out of the way of people who want to build, invest, and succeed. It's personal responsibility over state dependency. It's law and order the belief that safe communities are the foundation of a free society. It's a principled foreign policy grounded in national interest, strong alliances, and a belief that Canada must carry its weight in the world. It's respect for institutions, for the constitution, for the rule of law. It's defending individual freedoms against an ever-expanding state. These ideas resonate deeply with millions of Canadians urban and rural, new and old, French and English. The question was never whether conservatism has a future in Canada. It absolutely does. The question is whether we are articulating it clearly, honestly, and compellingly enough to win the trust of those Canadians. And to do that, we must always question ourselves. A movement that confuses media hostility with political momentum, that mistakes noise for strength, is a movement headed for complacency. We've seen where that leads. We never rest on our laurels. That's what real conservatives do.
Marc Nixon@MarcNixon24

Who would you propose to lead the conservative movement? The liberal party and mainstream media wouldn’t it be constantly attacking pierre if they didn’t feel he was a threat They would happily keep them around If pierre were to step down, I guarantee you, Mark Carney would call a snap election That’s how the liberals play

@dubsndoo It's fascinating to watch a subset of Conservatives furrowing their brows and simply incapable of figuring this out. Poilievre couldn't read the room. He shows flashes of being able to now, but it's not enough.

Too bad we couldn’t convince Stephen Harper to run again. Seems like Poilievre is losing the confidence of his caucus, and I can’t understand why. He’s the same Poilievre who was ahead of the Liberals by 25 points a little over a year ago. There’s some serious Liberal voodoo here
Darshan Maharaja@TheophanesRex

Within less than 12 months of the election, @CPC_HQ @PierrePoilievre have lost 4 MPs to floor crossings & their new communications director has quit. Things seem to be seriously awry in the party. The leader needs to answer to the party’s supporters. Will he?
