@Evanryt obviously fair to consider, but I don't think it stands in for actual critique of the music (which is obviously somewhat subjective like all critique). I would say the same thing about an artist I don't like, such as Eminem. It's a market forces analysis, unrelated to the art.

I once heard a boomer explain that at a time when rock music was increasingly dominated by rhythm and blues, the Beach Boys were a breath of fresh air because they were explicitly white. That always struck me as a gross but also accurate distillation of their appeal
