Here I said I'd oppose either additional state funding for NYC class size reduction or extended timeline for compliance w/o a clear, detailed multi-year plan showing how the $ would be used to achieve mandated caps. But @ChalkbeatNY left out the reason. chalkbeat.org/newyork/2026/0…

This is quite the news story especially after an endorsement process that was suspect! @UFT Mulgrew, to his credit, made a good argument today @NYCCouncil about having exemptions in pattern bargaining for our city’s lowest paid municipal workers. Calling out the OLR position that claims the pattern can’t be broken for certain positions — He called it A SCAM! City unions need to unite behind ensuring our city workers are paid a LIVING WAGE, not poverty wages.

The Mamdani administration is opposing legislation backed by New York City’s powerful teachers union to boost pay for teacher aides who help students with disabilities. subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2026/0…

There’s some KARMA here, nonetheless. The same argument that @UFT Mulgrew and DC 37 have used against @NycRetirees 1096 bill to protect traditional Medicare for city retirees is now being weaponized against them. That said … if they thought like unionists, this is an opportunity to organize and build labor solidarity among the city’s lowest paid workers to fight for a living wage!
Madina Touré@madinatoure

Daniel Pollak, first deputy commissioner at the Office of Labor Relations, told lawmakers Monday that the bill conflicts with the Taylor Law and that it undermines the city’s collective bargaining process.

Scam scam scam scam scam. We are so tired of this. HMH took away the READING OF WHOLE BOOKS. Chancellor Ramos was a cheerleader for HMH and look how handsomely she is rewarded. Meanwhile the students of NYC suffer with culturally destructive curriculum. For shame.
Ms. A@mathnerd9130

@SusanBEdelman @NYCMayor @NYCSchools NYC DOE paid HMH over $110 MILLION in the last 3 years. Now the former Chancellor is headed to HMH? Public service shouldn’t become a pipeline to vendors cashing DOE checks. This deserves scrutiny.

Just received this response fr/@NYCCOIB Exec. Director re Melissa Ramos new job w/ @HMHeducation - shared w/ her permission. I should note that HMH IntoReading is the most hated of 3 ELA options by NYC parents, teachers & students @nycschools- but also the most used.

The NYC DOE has yet to issue guidelines -- promised for months -- on the use of artificial intelligence in city schools. Meanwhile, the teachers union has partnered with big tech companies to get training on AI. Plagiarism and the loss of privacy are growing concerns.
Naveed Hasan@read_naveed

There’s no similar playbook in New York yet. It left “a vacuum of uncertainty for individual schools & districts on what’s permissible & what isn’t,” said Naveed Hasan, a member of a city education oversight panel who has a background in technology policy. @troy_closson @UFT 1/2

Enough is enough. Safety needs to be balanced with privacy rights and needs. That a seasoned, respected & reputable educator is being targeted in this way seems beyond heavy handed, especially considering that many may be endangered! @NYCSchools @UFT @NYCMayor @EricDinowitzNYC

Former NYC schools chancellor Melissa Aviles-Ramos, passed over by @NYCMayor to stay, has scored an executive job with a major vendor for @nycschools: HMH. The company has collected $28.8M of NYC funds in FY 26 so far, $44.6M in FY 25 and $37.5M in FY24. linkedin.com/pulse/proven-l…

🚨 NYC Paras offered a “$10K RESPECT Check.” — @uft bill reintroduced But it’s temporary pay. NOT pensionable. Can be repealed at any time. Paras deserve real raises, real stability, and real respect. Plus, the Mulgrew-@JulieMenin connection Read👇 thewire.educators.nyc/p/the-newly-re…

David Kazansky, former NYC TRS trustee and independent candidate for trustee in the upcoming @myTRSNYC election, sets the record straight about the misinformation being spread that teacher pensions and pensions of city workers are poised to be raided by the budget proposal by @NYCMayor to cover shortfalls. Our pension fund is not being “raided”. While the attempt to tap into the City’s retirement healthcare reserve fund remains VERY worrisome. Pensions can’t be raided under our State Constitution. The Mamdani administration is proposing to tap into the Retiree Health Benefits Trust fund — a reserve —and we should be concerned, nonetheless. The Retiree Health Benefits Trust (RHBT) was created by the City of New York in 2006 under Mayor Bloomberg to help prefund future retiree healthcare costs. It is: •A separate trust fund •Used to pay for retiree healthcare expenses (Medicare supplements, city health plans, etc.) •Not part of any pension system Marianne Pizzitola @FDNYchic explains more about it here: m.youtube.com/live/Rk-eG6fDs… The City’s proposal to deplete yet another health reserve fund like various mayors (along w/ MLC) have done with the Healthcare Stabilization fund which was declared insolvent by the latest Comptroller audit is something we cannot stand for. Read more about the audit here: thecity.nyc/2025/12/30/lan… Our healthcare shouldn’t be diminished. Nor never should it be a place to cut with impunity and disregard for the lives it protects. And yet mayor after mayor in the last 25 years or so has sought to do so — and often with some union bosses colluding with them. And, yes, it’s fair to question how the @UFT goes into making its major endorsements. Or any other union’s decision making process. But let’s speak facts and not fan the fires of fiction that often are sourced in other agendas — especially those that are anti-union.

I am outraged by the racist remarks recently made at a CEC 3 meeting regarding Black students at @NYCSchools . This rhetoric is unacceptable and I am calling for swift action to ensure thorough accountability.

So can someone please explain why we would sue to protect our data in Federal Court (NYCERS, BERS, TRS and PD pension funds) while some are including the City of NY are negotiating to give it to insurance companies for $100,000,000 😠fidelity.com/news/article/t…(Reuters,proxies%20that%20exclude%20their%20proposal.

@petersterne Why not tax big real estate? Properties evaluated in the millions? — instead of middle class homeowners. Wouldn’t that be consistent with taxing the rich?
