@SteveReedMP @Victoria_Spratt @BBCRadio4 building substandard housing won't solve any crisis. Nor will building private housing. Labour is intellectually bankrupt at best, corrupt at worst. Vote Green!

Build baby build is more than just a slogan. It’s about giving more people a secure roof over their head and a stable future to lay roots. Speaking to @Victoria_Spratt on @BBCRadio4 I set out why we’re pulling every lever to build 1.5 million homes and fix the housing crisis. bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

@bphillipsonMP You've done less than zero for higher education, which is in a state of crisis. We have no break--we're spending the "holiday" marking and prepping as many of us face teaching load increases of 50%. While our salaries fall in real terms and young PhDs can't get jobs.

Thank you to everyone working in education for all your dedication this year. We've achieved so much together already. I'm determined to work with you to achieve even more in 2026. I hope you have a well deserved, peaceful break.

I am ending the unrestricted use of taxis by asylum seekers for hospital appointments, authorising them only in the most exceptional circumstances.   I will continue to root out waste as we close every single asylum hotel. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

@MikeTappTweets Are you saying there's a direct correlation between increased emigration and improvement in quality life of the UK's poorest people? That sounds like BS to me. In fact, I bet the opposite is true more likely to be true.

Don’t believe the spin. More migrants leaving means British workers are not being undercut. That’s what we want… As you can see, British nationals leaving has remained stable and this is in line with similar countries whose young people like to study and gain life experiences abroad. There was an increase in 2021 which was down to a data method change from sample surveys at airports (unreliable) to using gov data such as HMRC/DWP - so more reliable. Hope that helps. Overall; net migration has fallen from the Tory peak of 944,000 to 204,000 We are delivering.

@johnmcternan @rcolvile Exactly. Why vote for a Govt that declares itself powerless? And unfortunately, someone who is precisely NOT an alternative (Farage) is currently doing the best job of convincing people that he is.

@rcolvile Of course it can do both. The problem is the comforting fiction that Downing Street clings to - that it can outsource political arguments and party management to a fictional construct they call the “bond markets”. It’s their version of TINA and there really are alternatives.

The Government's fundamental problem is that it can't simultaneously please Labour backbenchers and the bond markets. And every time it appeases one it infuriates the other.

@darrengrimes So "foreign nationals" living in the UK should pay taxes like everyone else but not get any of the benefits taxes fund? Did it ever occur to you that as a group we pay in more money than we take out?

1 in 6 people on Universal Credit is a foreign national. What they don't say is that this means 1.3 MILLION non-citizens are being supported by the British taxpayer. They’ll call you a bigot for noticing. They'll say it's "complex." It's not. The rule should be simple: you come to Britain to contribute, not to claim. Our safety net is for our people.

@JohnRentoul @FraserNelson An excellent explanation as to why "stopping the small boats" is beyond idiotic for Labour to take on as a priority. Farage et al will just find something else, which could be almost anything. The answer is to fight racism and xenophobia and their causes. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

@JohnRentoul Labour don't need to stop the small boats. They need to push through the real changes to people's lives that will free them from fixating on a non-problem and a non-issue. Labour cannot beat Farage at his own game. Only a genuine leftwing agenda has a chance.

@MichaelRosenYes @barecommonsense @FadunkJerbi @RichMillett What do you think happens in a war? You shoot at me; I shoot at you. One of us dies. These aren’t consequence-free games. Borders everywhere are defined by historical wars and at some point you need to live peacefully behind them.

Imagine the state of mind of these settlers. They are saying through their actions: 'Let's starve Palestinians, because we want their land.' What's a word to describe that?

Astonishingly stupid. Labour have suspended three MPs for their rebellion over welfare cuts: Brian Leishman, Chris Hinchliff and Neil Duncan Jordan. More chaos, more briefings, more doubling down on austerity. These people have no idea how to do politics.

@easyJet So my flight is delayed by over 4 hours, I will arrive at the airport at 3.00 am (!), and all you offer me is one 9 euro voucher? This is very, very poor. Don't expect me ever to fly with you again.

Labour should absolutely hold their ground on Winter Fuel Allowance IMO. The messaging needs to change but the policy shouldn't. Anyone that suggests wealthy pensioners should receive free money in a) such straightened fiscal context & b) crumbling public services isn't credible

@johnmcternan @Jonathan_Hinder @UKLabour The real truth is we will need more immigration if any of us want to retire and we need to be honest about that. Just as we need to acknowledge that climate change will bring about unprecedented movements of populations, and this will bring responsibilities.
