Canadian National Pleads Guilty to Online Sexual Exploitation of Over 100 Children District of Columbia - A Toronto resident has pleaded guilty in U.S. federal court to sexually exploiting more than 100 children across the United States by posing as a teenage boy online and targeting victims through social media. Ramanan Pathmanathan, 40, of Toronto, admitted in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to producing child sexual abuse material and to coercion and enticement of a minor. Prosecutors said he spent seven years manipulating girls between the ages of 11 and 17, persuading them to engage in sexually explicit acts during online video chats and secretly recording the encounters. When victims tried to stop, he threatened to share the recordings with their families and friends. Authorities said the victims were located throughout the United States. Pathmanathan was arrested in December 2025 after being temporarily surrendered to U.S. authorities from Canada, where he had already pleaded guilty to similar crimes in 2022 and was sentenced to 12 years in prison. Under the U.S. plea agreement, Pathmanathan faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 25 years in prison and could receive up to life behind bars. He will also be required to pay restitution of at least $3,000 per victim. Sentencing is scheduled for May 27. The case was investigated by the FBI’s Houston Field Office with assistance from Canadian authorities, including the Toronto Police Service.
