@AdrianHofman Let’s just all recommend it on LinkedIn and then it can take care of all the recruiter spam too.

@SimonCropp I think about stuff like this when releasing a patch release to bump a vulnerable dependency which will only have any benefit for those who update their dependencies.

I get an announcement and push notification if freezer is open >5m. Bathroom fan runs auto based on humidity. Front door autolocks after 10m. Mail arriving is announced. When dishwasher is clean it’s added round-robin to one of the kids’ chore charts.
But mostly…it’s fun to do!

Home automation seems like such a scam. There is barely anything out there that is beyond“cool story bro” yet many people want to “automate” their homes. Are there actually any products out there that are major quality of life improvements?

@cassidoo Only for the Minnesota State Fair “app” which I contend is one of the finest examples of offline-capable device-capability-supporting cross-platform web-based “app” I’ve ever seen. app.mnstatefair.org/index.html and because seriously cheese curds.

LINQPad 8 has a brand-new Excel interop engine. The exporter now emits native .xlsx files, accurately preserving datatypes, and creates Excel tables with AutoFilter. You can even create spreadsheets cell-by-cell, using the simplest-ever inbuilt API! linqpad.net/LINQPad8.aspx

@AdrianHofman Why? Ctrl+K,C and Ctrl+K,U manage this very quickly and easily and show the entire change in a diff. Multi-line requires edits in 2 places.

I have a handful of broken automations because I can’t tell if my garage door is up or down, thanks to Chamberlain blocking the API from my “unauthorized access” to the device I own.
@Chamberlain you suck & I will make sure nobody I know ever buys your products again.

@DavidBoike Big thanks for your brilliant multipurpose sensor tutorial. Perfect future-proof solution after trying so many poor workarounds. 🍻

@SimonCropp @sfeldman I think you could already do that with the newer saga scenario testing framework, but then replace any asserts with Verify calls. docs.particular.net/nservicebus/te…

@sfeldman @knunery What about an actual NServiceBus retry policy? docs.particular.net/nservicebus/ho…
English

@knunery Until we get there, it's a challenge as you'd need to coordinate # of retries with the delivery count, and an intermittent error could send messages to the DLQ rather than delayed retries. 2/2
English

@sfeldman Is there a way to get something like NServiceBus's retry policy with Azure Functions ServiceBusTriggers? Custom code?
English

@gregtew @IASTATEAD Maybe. The turnstiles are dumb and get in the way though. I’ve seen the same NFC tickets at Wrigley and Target Field this summer but without turnstiles and it’s much simpler, I just made it beep green 4 times and my family walked in.
English

@DavidBoike @IASTATEAD I'm sure lots of it will be the learning curve of something new. I'm assuming lots of older fans don't use NFC much, if at all, so that was a big part. Students probably flew in. Signage would have been very helpful and/or designated lanes for "extra assistance"
