Her concern: a quiet divide is forming — one group protecting deep thinking for their own children while the rest of us are encouraged to just keep scrolling.
In the age of AI, experts across the board are saying critical thinking, philosophical reasoning, and liberal arts skills are becoming even more essential — not less. AI can generate answers, but it can’t replace the human ability to ask the right questions, understand context, ethics, and meaning.
The people building our digital future seem to understand this deeply for their own families, yet design systems that often pull everyone else in the opposite direction.

NEW: Judge apologizes in court to WHCA Dinner shooting suspect Cole Allen. Magistrate Judge Zia Faruqui said that he was “fascinated and disturbed” by Allen's treatment in jail. Allen was placed on suicide watch when he was first imprisoned. Prosecutors argued that since Allen told investigators he did not expect to survive the alleged attack, he could be a danger to himself. But an incredulous Faruqui wasn't convinced by that argument, drawing comparisons between Allen and defendants arrested for rioting at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. “To me, it’s extremely disturbing that he was put in five-point restraints, a person with no criminal history. It’s troubling. I never heard of one Jan. 6 defendant who was put in five-point restraints or in a safe cell. When I received a calling from President Dallin H. Oaks to serve as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, I felt overwhelmed with emotion and deeply aware of my own limitations.
After I accepted the call, President Oaks invited me to follow him into a room where my fellow Apostles were gathered. Then he asked me to share my testimony of Jesus Christ.
In that sacred moment, a passage of scripture came clearly to my mind from Doctrine and Covenants 68:
“Be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me.”
I felt a powerful assurance of the Lord’s promise. As we bear witness of Him, He sustains us and stands with us.
Though I felt the weight of my calling, those words—"be of good cheer, and do not fear"—brought comfort and peace. I knew then, and I know now, that as we bear witness of the Savior, Jesus Christ, He will stand by us.

Guys I really need prayers 🥺. Yesterday, my son turned 18. I went to wish him Happy Birthday only to find his things gone & a 5 pg letter telling me he hates me & he's leaving the church. This came out of nowhere. He's been lying to everyone for over a year. I'm shattered. #LDSX
