Even teen jeans are somewhat cheaper now. We get the boys George Strait Wranglers, they are about $50 in today's money. So back in 1999, that equates to maybe $25. Less than half the cost of acceptable teen age jeans in the 90s.

Then again, when I was a teen you *had* to have at least Levi's, and I remember them costing at least $60+ in the late 90s, which must be like $120 today. Now I just get Rustlers from Walmart for $16. The old Levi's were imported even back then, so it was a pure rip off.

Why are jeans $60-$80/pair 🫣😬

The name of this guy’s church suggests he may be in the RPCNA, which is one of the small groups I mentioned that’s not a product of schism. Nevertheless, this redefinition of terms and rewriting of history (and so arrogantly) is an example of why so much of evangelical teaching is not to be trusted. If they are unwilling to acknowledge the basic history we can all look up on Wikipedia, and instead rely on bespoke definitions to create a different historical narrative, what else have they done that with? It’s sort of like when I read John Piper’s analysis of women in military combat and see that it’s not an accurate representation of what happened. It makes me wonder what else he’s telling me about gender also isn’t an accurate representation.
Thomas Booher@ptomer

Hey PCA calling us all schizos, touche or something like that. Here's a thought -- the true church in its health and vitality is where the gospel is preached, sacraments are faithfully administered, and church discipline is faithfully conducted. Denominations that drift from this are the schismatics, whether their churches number 1, 100, or 100,000. They are the ones departing from the living God.

From living room, to rented chapel at a private school, to a store front, to this building in eight years. Redeemed Omer is an ignorant clown and should be ignored.

@scottrswain Who sings that text to DARWALL? I don't see any matching instances on Hymnary. All the Trinity hymnals use BEVAN by John Goss.

@aaron_renn In Oklahoma you’ll see a lot of Free Will Baptist. In Arkansas there’ll be Church of Christ in the mix. A few weeks ago in Missouri I saw sign for a Primitive Baptist Church.

Samuel Clarke: Bonaventure, born in Etruria in Italie, of Noble and devout Parents, was of a winning countenance, very studious, and a great follower of Alexender Hales. He engraved in his study that saying of our Lord, Learn of me, for I am meek, &c. and to keep his minde from swelling, he would sweep rooms, wash vessels, make beds, &c. He was very cheerful in ministring to the Poor: and when he met with any persons that were troubled in minde, he would not leave them till they found comfort. He was much in Meditation and Prayer: In Preaching he sought to inflame the hearts of his hearers: His words were not Inslantia, but Inslammantia, not High-swelling, but Inflaming.

Covenant Presbyterian (PCA) in Nashville is the only Protestant church I’ve seen with a new building that’s a high quality version of a traditional church.

If we sing "Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken" at church, which tune should we use? (examples below)

This is what it looks like to "contextualize" to people you don't know or understand. Worship leader Brandon Lake says he wants to keep a fictional man called "Bubba" in mind with his song selection. "Bubba" won't want to sing lyrics that have too much Christianese in them, like "Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty." Lake has it exactly backwards. Lake thinks "Bubba" is too ignorant and backwards to know what the word "holy" means. And "Bubba" might be a manly, blue collar guy, as his name suggests, but that doesn't mean he's stupid. I wonder if "Bubba" would want to sing some of these lyrics written by Brandon Lake: "I wanna dance like David I wanna faith like Paul I wanna break my vase Just to anoint You Lord" Lake seems to think watered-down, overly emotive songs are what reaches men. When, in fact, songs like Holy, Holy, Holy, songs he's dismissing, lift men's hearts by upholding the glory and majesty of God. Lake's songs will be forgotten within a decade. Churches will still be belting out "Holy, Holy, Holy" 100 years from now.
Protestia@Protestia

Prominent Christian musician Brandon Lake criticizes church worship songs for having too much "Christianese' language in them, citing the phrase 'Holy Holy Holy is the Lord God Almighty' as one example. See the story at protestia.com/2025/06/03/bra…

@DavidRLepine @dmichaelclary There’s no negotiating genuine desire, David, and there’s no accounting for taste. I’m not obligated to like every classic Anglican tune (not a big fan of the old 100 either) any more than I’m obligated to like the Star Wars Eucharistic prayer in the 1979 BCP! 😝

@GiffLasta @dmichaelclary The Joe Stout video you posted features the Greg Wilbur tune. It’s a good tune and fine for you to prefer it, but it’s dumb to say that the standard tune (ALL SAINTS NEW by Henry Cutler) sucks. Listen to Joe Stout sing it to a metrical text of Psalm 110: youtu.be/_wOvQBm5Pmw
