As requested, here is our Easter surprise. Angelof Gettysburg and her day old foal (colt) by Aurelius Maximus. Angel is very protective and a good Mom. Can’t wait to see him when he is a week old. He should be filled out and romping and stomping.

😂 Of course it does! It isn't an accomplishment in any meaningful sense. If your parents purchased a home in 1970 for $40,000, and changed hands yesterday for ~$335,000, you might assume that it increased in value roughly 8x. But that wouldn't just be misleading, it would be utterly false! That 8x increase was due to inflation, not any increase in real value. It is a direct reflection of the degradation of the value of the USD (i.e. inflation), not any increase in value of the property. Do you imagine that $100 spent on groceries today has greater value than $75 spent 30 years ago? Nominal dollar values are simply not accurate in historical comparisons.

‡ Fake News! Claiming that Haulin Ice is the highest earning Arkansas-bred ever is analogous to asserting that Mike Repole is wealthier than John D. Rockefeller was in 1937. Both are wildly inaccurate, when seen through the crucial inflation-adjustment lens. According to Forbes' website today, Repole's Net Worth is roughly $2.5 Billion, which is good for #1655 on their "world" list. In 1937, Rockefeller, one of the richest Americans in history, was worth $1.4b. Adjusted for inflation, that sum was equivalent to ~$32b in today's dollars, roughly 14x Repole's considerable fortune. Haulin Ice has now earned ~$958,000. Nodouble, the outstanding co-champion Handicap Male in 1969 and 1970, earned ~$846,000 in nominal dollars. Adjusted for inflation, that was the equivalent of $7.1 million dollars today, 7x the current earnings of Haulin Ice. Remember kids: when it comes to these type of historical comparisons, if it ain't inflation-adjusted, it ain't accurate!

THIS IS NOT WHAT THE JOCKEY CLUB WANTED TO WAKE UP TO: NAME THE HORSE. EXPOSE THE TRUTH. Let’s try something different. If @jockeyclub were a racehorse… What would you name it? Let’s keep it classy. You know the rule. The name must be no more than 18 characters, including spaces, letters and punctuation. But based on: • $41M sitting idle • Loan forgiveness decisions • Nearly two months of unanswered questions • Closed-door meetings at 250 Park Ave …and many other issues you all know too well. I’m curious how the industry would name @jockeyclub if it were a race horse. Some names have been applied for so you can’t use these (see registry photo below): • No Comment Club • Forty One Million • Still No Answers • Reform Is Coming • Answer Pendiing Let’s hear the rest. REPLY AND POST THE NAME. Over the course of this weekend Dianne and I will pick our top three names and do a social media poll. All three winners will each choose an aftercare program of their choice and Westlake Racing Stable will make a donation to those programs in their names. REFORM IS COMING. REPOST AND SPEAK UP!

Horse racing has been a part of my life since my early teens and in 1987 I had the privilege of saddling my first winner as a trainer. Nearly 40 years later, I look back on my career with pride and gratitude. The countless memories, friendships, and opportunities that horse racing gave me will always be a part of who I am. None of my success as a trainer would’ve been possible without the people that I work with, both past and present. I’m especially appreciative of the owners that put their trust in me. Thank you doesn’t come close to expressing my gratitude. I’m proud to share that my assistant Kinnon Larose (@RealKinnon) will be taking the reins and become the trainer of record for the barn. He deserves it. I’ve watched him grow into an incredibly talented horseman as he’s worked by my side for the last six years. I will get as much joy watching Kinnon win races as I would if I were the trainer. To the entire racing community, thank you for decades of unforgettable memories and the joy it has brought me, my team, and my family! I’m not going anywhere, just ready to support and watch the next generation lead our industry. With Horsemen like Kinnon, we are in good hands. Sincerely, Tom

John Calipari ran the Kentucky program into the ground, quit and walked away from a lifetime contract, and then inherited an Elite 8-level program from Musselman—and now everyone from the national media on down is acting like he’s a magician for winning a conference tournament. It’s honestly bizarre. People’s memories are so short.

I’ve been in horse racing for over 20 years. The more my team, and now many passionate supporters of this sport, dig into the major issues that have plagued racing for decades, one name keeps popping up over and over again: Bill Lear. William “Bill” Lear is a powerful attorney in Lexington, Kentucky and Chairman Emeritus of the law firm Stoll Keenon Ogden. According to his own bio with The Jockey Club, his firm represents Breeders’ Cup, Keeneland, The Jockey Club, and Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. He is also: • A steward of The Jockey Club • A trustee of Keeneland • And by his own admission, the principal draftsman of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act. Optically… that’s a lot of influence concentrated in one place. When I began my legal battle with The Jockey Club, the first response letters we received came directly from his firm. Another interesting coincidence: The current CEO of Breeders’ Cup, Drew Fleming, and the CEO of Keeneland, Shannon Arvin, both previously worked at Stoll Keenon Ogden. So it raises a simple question. How many candidates were interviewed for those CEO jobs??? Because in most industries, CEOs of major organizations are usually operators, people with deep experience running businesses, building revenue, sales, marketing, and growth. Not lawyers from the same firm. To many people looking at this from the outside, it starts to look like a very small circle running a very big sport. Now let’s fast-forward to today. After three years of giving HISA a chance, many owners, trainers, breeders, and tracks feel the same thing: Costs going up. Participation going down. Small participants being squeezed. And the principal architect of the legislation is still sitting inside the governance structure of the sport. So I’ll ask the question many people in racing are already asking privately: How does it make you feel that the principal draftsman of HISA is also a steward of The Jockey Club and trustee of Keeneland??? Another question I’m curious about. During the 5 Stones investigation, which targeted certain trainers, I wonder: Were any trainers connected to Jockey Club stewards ever investigated??? Transparency matters. I’ve been in racing over 20 years and, interestingly, I’ve never met or seen Bill Lear at a racetrack. I also couldn’t find any record of him owning a horse over the past 30 years. Yet his influence over the sport appears enormous. You can draw your own conclusions. But the words I hear most often from many people in the industry when Bill Lear’s name comes up are: “Pain in the ass for the industry.” And “Puppet master.” Team Horse Racing…what do you think???

What an incredible night in Bud Walton Arena we had last night! Tyson Foods rolls out their new jersey patch sponsorship, Nolan Richardson is in the building to find out a statue of him is being built to be placed outside the arena, our crowd was unbelievable, our students were out in full force, not only did our team play great but how about our two seniors??? So happy for TB and Nick to have such great games in their last time playing inside Bud Walton. Thank you to all who made last night special by showing up and supporting this team! So happy for Coach Richardson and such a well deserved honor.

Agree 100% Will, would have been a big miss not to have him there to hear the news in person plus get the roar of the crowd. Well done, and cool you were a part of the ceremony. Nolan is happy, former players are happy and Hog fans are happy. That’s always great math 🐗🐗🐗🐗
Will Roth@willjroth

It’s not just that Nolan Richardson is getting a statue outside of Bud Walton Arena. It’s that he was able to learn about it in person while standing on Nolan Richardson Court as the state passionately cheered the decision to build his statue. It was his moment. And he was there!

🚨Headline: TINKY ADMITS HE GOT PAID AND WORKED WITH 5 STONES AND THE JOCKEY CLUB For 13 years, “Tinky” hid behind a handle. Now Tony Cobitz admits he worked with 5 Stones and the Jockey Club. We know the Jockey Club paid 5 Stones at least $6.3 million over five years. And now we learn Tony worked and was compensated by both. Let me make this simple. If you’re publicly defending HISA and the Jockey Club every single day, while being paid by the firms tied to them, that’s not just commentary. That’s a conflict. And the fact that this wasn’t volunteered upfront??? That’s the problem. This industry doesn’t have a horse problem. It has a transparency problem. You can support whoever you want. But if money is involved, disclose it. That’s credibility 101. So I’ll ask: Who knew??? Who approved it??? And why did it take this long to come out??? Tone deaf. Delusional. Exactly the kind of insider behavior that’s dragged this sport down for decades. Transparency isn’t optional anymore. Game F$&kin On!!!!! What do you guys think??? Commissioner Mike

‡ When Will the Denial End? In two of my most recent posts, I demonstrated Mike's @RepoleStable inability, at least in our exchanges, to admit that he is wrong when faced with serious, well-supported criticism, and his tendency to resort to dishonest argumentation. His most recent response, embedded below, helps to illustrate the depth of his denial, and how far he is willing to go in efforts to keep it intact. I recall, as most readers likely do, a simple, formative experience that I had as a child. Having thrown something, probably a candy wrapper, on the ground, my mother scolded me. I responded by noting, probably thinking that I was being clever, that "everyone" litters. She patiently explained that even if other people display dubious behavior, it isn't a valid excuse, and elaborated on why. The lesson stuck with me, as similar lessons undoubtedly have for the vast majority of people. So, how did Mike choose to respond to my recent, critical post? Not by attempting to refute any of the fact-based points or arguments that I had laid out. Not with a belated, and refreshing admission that he had made some mistakes, and that he would try to do better. But rather with yet another dubious attempt at playing the Gotcha! game. In other words, he chose to resort to what boils down to the same type of childish impulse as the one illustrated above: "He did it too!" His aim was presumably to embarrass me by exposing dishonesty on my part, in order to rationalize his own behavior, but he missed the target. I could play the same game, and respond by asking him a number of questions that I am certain he would prefer not to answer, but I don't want to do that, as I believe that it would lead us further down a destructive, rather than constructive path. I will, instead, answer his question, and it is not uncomfortable for me to do so. I was a "subject-matter expert (SME)" consultant for roughly a year and a half, leading up to the implementation of HISA. To my knowledge, no one from 5 Stones (5Si), including myself, went on to work for HIWU, after HISA took the reins. Mike likely asked the question in hopes that I either wouldn't answer, or, if I did, that he might be able to make some related claims of dishonest behavior. The problem, if that was his goal, is that there was no associated dishonesty. Any suggestion that I was somehow dishonest because I never volunteered the connection publicly, or any argument that I might have been dishonest when I "defended" TJC publicly, given that they sponsored 5Si, would fall flat for the reasons below. While I have occasionally noted that hiring 5Si was to TJC's credit, as the company was involved in laying the foundation for the Servis and Navarro, et al, indictments and prosecutions, I was making that point well before I ever worked for 5Si, and the facts underpinning the simple, straightforward point, have long been publicly available. There were never any nuanced conflicts of interest, either, as I have never said, or written anything publicly that was related to the private, and by definition confidential information that I was privy to while working for 5Si. How would readers know that? Because I support my opinions and arguments with publicly available facts. I don't say just trust me (wink wink), implying special knowledge. Any suggestion that my various comments relating to TJC were connected to my association with 5Si would be entirely unsupportable. Not only did I write both positively and negatively about TJC for decades prior to that relatively brief overlap, but as I have noted many times, any of my perceived "defenses" of TJC have, in fact, been efforts to set the record straight, and/or remind readers that it is silly to paint the organization in a solely negative light, as if it hasn't also done many positive things for the industry. Finally, I found the work that I did for 5Si to be both interesting and challenging, and have no reason whatsoever to feel embarrassed by anything relating to the experience. Regarding the underlying exchange, I have never claimed to be a saint, nor that I have always been honest. But I can say that I have tried to recognize my mistakes, learn from them, and do better. And that, in a nutshell, is all that I am asking of you, Mike.

ATTN: HORSE RACING STAKEHOLDERS...What Happened to the $2.3M Breeders’ Cup Loan to HISA? Now let’s talk about the reported $2.3M obligation to @BreedersCup. The proposed 2026 HISA budget filed with the FTC shows: • $0 allocated to loan repayment Zero. There is no schedule of liabilities. No disclosure of outstanding principal balances. No amortization schedule. No note explaining whether the Breeders’ Cup obligation was: • Repaid • Refinanced • Extended • Subordinated • Forgiven • Or still outstanding For an entity operating under federal oversight, requesting $77M in new industry assessments, the absence of liability reconciliation is glaring. Basic nonprofit financial governance requires: • Clear disclosure of related-party obligations • Transparency on lender terms • Explanation of any loan forgiveness or modification • Disclosure of repayment assumptions embedded in forward budgets If $2.3M was repaid - say so. If it was extended - disclose the terms. If it was forgiven - disclose who approved it and when. If it remains outstanding - explain why the 2026 budget assumes zero repayment. Silence on liabilities while increasing assessments is not sound financial stewardship. It’s not complicated: You cannot request nearly $80M annually from the industry while providing no clarity on how prior multi-million-dollar debts are being handled. That’s not reform. That’s incomplete accounting. REPOST AND SPEAK OUT! @hisa_us @LisaLazarusCEO

Interesting development. It’s telling that even the Paulick Report and @raypaulick the Dinosaur had to cover this. A multi-billion-dollar public company like Churchill Downs gets zero notice, yet HISA and their multi-million-dollar forgiven-loan partner, The @JockeyClub, somehow seem perfectly aligned with Joe Dope who suddenly drops a hit piece. That doesn’t look random. It looks coordinated. HISA. The Jockey Club. Joe Dope. Same messaging. Same timing. Same playbook. Transparency matters. Accountability matters. We all deserve better. Do you guys believe this was intentionally coordinated by these bad actors???

Yesterday one of the Evil Empire’s henchmen tried to take a shot at my credibility. 90% of this industry saw right through it. But here’s what they didn’t expect…the truth hits a lot harder than their little sponsored posts. Let’s talk about caring for the breed. For 15 years, the @JockeyClub has given just $23 million to aftercare. $23 million. In the same breath, they spend more on executive compensation and more on America’s Best Racing than they do making sure retired Thoroughbreds are safe for life. That alone should make every single person in this sport sick. But here’s the part that really tests your moral compass. In 2013, a horse named Orb won the Kentucky Derby. Bred by the Janney/Phipps family. Owned by the Janney/Phipps family. Two families worth Billions. For 40 years, the Chairman of the Jockey Club was either a Phipps or a Janney. Think about that moment. Winning the most prestigious race in the world with a homebred. The joy. The pride. The tears. Orb goes on to stud. He doesn’t become a commercial superstar. It happens. This is a hard game. Now imagine you have an 11-year-old Kentucky Derby winner who didn’t pan out as a stallion. What would you do??? If I’m ever blessed enough to win a Derby… That horse isn’t going anywhere. He’d be in my backyard. I’d feed him carrots and mints every morning, probably before I kiss my wife and daughter. Because that horse changed your life. But what did the leadership of the Jockey Club do??? They sold their Kentucky Derby winner to Uruguay for $50,000. Fifty thousand dollars. That’s what the sport’s most sacred trophy horse was worth to them when he stopped generating revenue. When the leadership of the Jockey Club tells you they “care about the breed”… When they tell you they’re “committed to the future of the Thoroughbred”… Remember this: When their Derby winner had no residual value, they shipped him to South America for pennies. This isn’t about business. This is about values. You don’t get to lecture the industry about stewardship while treating a Derby winner like excess inventory. If this doesn’t bother you, if this doesn’t hit your heart, then maybe you don’t love these horses the way you say you do. This sport is built on emotion. On loyalty. On gratitude. On doing right by the animal that makes all of this possible. You can’t preach legacy and practice liquidation. That’s the difference between gratitude and greed. ❤️🙏 How do you feel???
