IF (and that is IF) Connor McDavid were to get traded before his new contract expires… The Montreal Canadiens make the most sense to me. They’re already contenders and have the assets to make it happen without compromising their current roster too much. They also have one of the best goaltending prospects in the game to send to Edmonton.
This team is one more elite centre away from being at the top of the top, and McDavid would fit in like a glove. He could still bring the Cup back to Canada, just in blue, white… and red 🔵⚪️🔴
English

@Hortiez @mr52pickup lol honestly better off trading Leon for a package that includes a top D and G
English

@mr52pickup Trade Bouchard, lose nurse, trade jarry.
That’s 27 million free.
Bouchard Can bring assets, his stock is high, oilers need a defensive D man more than an offensive one.
He’s Just a better Tyson Barrie really. Inflated stats being with 97 and 29.
English

@YoungerWorks @b71488 @Bos88Enjoyer lol anyone 2/3 on a top country team is a clear 1 on an nhl team
English

@b71488 @Bos88Enjoyer I think McAvoy is a fine number 2, unfortunately they are paying him like a number 1. Perfect example is look at him as a 2/3 with team USA, he was brilliant. But, they also had offensive Dmen that allowed him to just play D.
English

@storage_che @cmcdavid97 I think the fans and the great people of #Edmonton have been patient with the Oilers and the captain of that TEAM.

Here’s the problem.
The second you start calling your own team “Average” with high expectations, you’ve already lost the room.
That’s not leadership—that’s distance.
You never heard
Wayne Gretzky do that.
Or Mario Lemieux.
Or Michael Jordan.
Or Tom Brady.
Those guys didn’t separate themselves from the team—they dragged the team up with them. And there’s a reason they all have rings. Multiple.
People forget something real quick. When Gretzky left Edmonton, the Oilers won the Cup second season after. Let that sink in.
Right now, Connor McDavid is the best player in the league.
No debate.
But if the mindset doesn’t shift, he risks becoming something nobody wants to be—
The most talented player of his era with a highlight reel full of magic… and nothing to show for it when it matters most.
Someone had to say it.

I take comfort in knowing that Dostal and this team won't go far these playoffs.
It's been a lot of hockey for our team these last couple years. Get some rest. Get recovered. And I hope the players we want back come back fully healthy.

Leo seals it and that’s that. Anaheim will move on to Round 2 and will play the winner of Utah/Vegas.

@ClaudeRioux @MitchyGallo @TSN690 One of those icings was a blind panic clear by Slaf and not so much the kind of “try to score “ that really does make sense
English

@MitchyGallo @TSN690 With the TB goalie pulled last night Habs had control of the puck 2 or 3 times and tried to score on the open net . Analytics may disagree with this but flipping it out and not have an icing seems to be a smarter play !

Here are my three takeaways from tonight’s 3-2 Montreal Canadiens win in Game 5 over the Tampa Bay Lightning, brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud.
1- Gallagher gets Habs going
Sometimes the story writes itself, and the most predictable thing about tonight’s game was that Brendan Gallagher was going to score. Time and time again, Martin St. Louis has pushed the right buttons, and inserting Montreal’s most experienced playoff player into the lineup for the first time since the final game of the season paid off immediately.
On his first shift, on his first shot, Gallagher cleaned up the garbage in front of the net something he’s made a career out of. The longtime Canadien may be on the back nine of his career, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still be valuable to a young team.
He may not have the same pace or speed he once did, but you know exactly what you’re going to get. He’s tenacious, difficult to play against, and gives absolutely everything he has. It’s hard not to feel good seeing him rewarded with a big goal.
2- Matheson misplays
Mike Matheson had a shift similar to the one Kirby Dach had in overtime in Game 3, where multiple mistakes led to a goal against. The final error was an attempted shot that simply can’t miss the net something every player is taught at a young age.
The chances of beating Andrei Vasilevskiy clean from that spot were already slim, and missing the net turns it into an automatic breakout the other way. Not only that, but the Canadiens had the lead and were in control, with Tampa’s top players on the ice. That’s a moment where the cliché applies, get pucks deep and manage the situation.
Instead, Jake Guentzel, who leads the series in points, beats Jakub Dobes five-hole and gives the Lightning life heading into the third period yet again. Matheson has been logging heavy minutes, and it’s starting to show. He’s incredibly valuable to this blue line, but no one will benefit more from the return of Noah Dobson than him.
3- Lane Hutson has been Montreal’s best player
Tampa Bay’s top players have delivered. Montreal’s have been quieter, with the exception of Lane Hutson, who has clearly been their best player through five games.
He’s been excellent defensively, an area of his game that often gets overlooked, and it’s fair to say Tampa’s top players don’t find him easy to play against. But his biggest impact comes offensively, especially in key moments.
In Game 3, it was the overtime winner with a booming slap shot. Tonight, it was a perfectly executed stretch pass, using his eyes as deception to spring Alexandre Texier in full flight, who slips it past Vasilevskiy for the winner.
Hutson’s size will always be a talking point, and until he proves it over a long playoff run, people will question whether he can hold up. But so far, he’s answered every challenge. There’s no reason to think that will stop now.
He’s now on a five-game point streak, and what’s most impressive is that he’s doing in the playoffs exactly what he did in the regular season, in games that are much harder to play.

English

@HabsDepression Almost like the guys who play against the best players don’t get a good expected goals stat.
English

I beg for you guys to actually be rational about Matheson, he stinks
Carrier not far behind (but im willing to give him the Matheson tax)
Guhle - Carrier pair would be ideal
But you can stick Hutson with Matheson, youll lose the series. Cant play the bottom pair more than they are already playing.
So really its pray Dobson can come back and scratch Matheson. But that wont ever happen cause Veteran bs

English

@HabsLinks Put Matheson on the 3rd defense pairing, and minimize his minutes.
English

@fnveenie This is why I was waiting for this moment. Before they had no pressure now they do. It’s telling. And the time before he was a rookie so was more free.
English

@rankedteams @Antho_Martineau It’s the corruption of calling a penalty you clearly did not see
English

@Antho_Martineau "But the ref isn't even looking!" is a very funny defense of an obvious penalty
English

Kapanen aurait, selon cette nouvelle prise de vue publiée par Mike Kelly, bel et bien atteint son rival à la tête avec son bâton.

@RickyRicha82887 @EricEngels That stick actually hit the head of hab guy so no
English

@EricEngels Don't worry they just gifted you guys one in the last 2mins of the game.
English

@Tampafan86 @EricEngels Gotta admit I did not see this thanks for sharing the rest of the clip
English

@CatWineMix @StuCowan1 Slaf was hurt and there was no call because that was a clean hit. Evans cross check was brain dead but Kuch was definitely faking for a major.
English

@StuCowan1 Slaf went from looking concussed and out of the series to back moments later. I’m guessing you think he is just tough but Kuch is just embellishing?
English

If anything…the call on the ice was no goal! Both hands out! How did this change to a good goal on the ice? That usually involves a very intentional pointing by the ref! See 2nd photo. #LetsGoOilers

English

He only gave up 4! He is Koskinen 2.0 #LetsGoOilers fans and media know Jarry is not winning the Cup, either is Picard, or Ingram.
Jim Matheson@jimmathesonnhl
If Oilers start Jarry over Ingram there are 2 reasons why. They traded Skinner to get him being most obvious. Also going to another G after 2 straight 1st round losses worked last April when Skinner sat for Pickard and won 4 straight. Jarry has only started 2 games in last month
English

@Stevenbradleyb @Oilersfan88 @Asnow119 @thackattack41 I think it crossed line as well. But I’m a lot more concerned with the blatant corruption that accidentally worked THIS time
English

@Oilersfan88 @Asnow119 @thackattack41 Yes I agree with that . But I do think it crossed the line. More upset that Leon didn’t get the puck out on the tying goal than the refs call…
