Meet the Faces Behind @Amref_Kenya's WASH Initiatives!
Our dedicated WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) team is at the heart of a mission that’s creating healthier, more resilient communities across Kenya. Through their tireless collaboration with county governments and partners, we’re advancing access to clean water, sustainable sanitation, and vital hygiene education – the essential building blocks of a healthy society.
Here’s a snapshot of our impact:
✅Enhancing access to Clean Water: We’re increasing access to safe drinking water through well drilling, rainwater harvesting, and improved water storage solutions, especially in underserved areas.
✅Providing sanitation Solutions: We promote sustainable sanitation through community-led initiatives that build proper latrines, manage waste, and maintain sanitation facilities. Empowering communities to manage sanitation independently has led to healthier living environments.
✅Hygiene Education: Beyond infrastructure, we’re empowering communities with knowledge of essential hygiene practices. Our health education programs address handwashing, safe food practices, and menstrual hygiene, making hygiene a sustainable part of daily life. #AmrefTransforms2030 #AmrefBigBets #AmrefLearningForum2024 #Amref4PHC

Today, we hosted a delegation from the Royal Danish Embassy in Kenya, led by Marie My Larsen, the Team Leader of the Regional Humanitarian Team, to assess the progress of the Transcend Project. The project aims to integrate family health services, focusing on Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), family planning services, and addressing Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) for refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp and neighbouring host communities. The visit resulted in stronger partnerships and collaboration with the county and other implementing organisations, and a commitment to work towards a sustainability roadmap that will lead to the absorption of health indicators by @TurkanaCountyKE. #Amref4PHC @denmarkinkenya

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Teachers’ Service Commission, Office of the Narok County Commissioner, County Department of Health, County Department of Water, and other stakeholders, we celebrated the 2nd WASH in Schools (WinS) Festival in Narok County on August 2, 2024, at Lekanka Primary School in Narok West.
The event, themed "A Clean and Safe Learning Environment: A Right for Every Child", highlighted our collective commitment to providing every child with a healthy educational environment.
This annual festival is an innovative platform that engages and involves schools in a WASH Club competition through performance arts. Students participated in songs, dances, skits, poems, and essays to promote and reinforce sustainable practices in water, sanitation, and hygiene. The event enhances health and educational outcomes among learners and fosters community involvement and awareness.
