Werner Muller (44) has been formally charged with the murder of his wife, Rene Muller (44), in Secunda, Mpumalanga.
The couple was reported missing last Sunday after family members could not reach them. Police later forced open a locked outside room at their home, where Rene’s body was found in a bag. She had been stabbed multiple times, and a knife was recovered at the scene.
Muller allegedly fled the country in a white Toyota Hilux and was tracked and arrested in Mozambique. He has since been extradited back to South Africa.
The couple had been married for just two months. Muller has no prior convictions.
The case has been postponed to next week for a possible bail application, while the motive is still under investigation.

BEE RULES GET TOUGHER
South Africa's Treasury has unveiled tough new BEE rules for government contracts.
Under the draft regulations, firms bidding for state work must prove that 40% of their own spending goes to majority Black-owned enterprises.
They must also subcontract 30% of contract value to South African citizens.
The goal is to use the R1 trillion annual procurement budget - roughly 15% of GDP - to drive transformation and job creation.
