The random spring snow kinda suck in the city, everything gets muddy , roads are grimy and gross, but it's a bonus in the mountains. Beautiful Friday morning on prairie mountain, running down was fun.

Most of the crew was incompetent in an unexplainable way. A crack team of experts in their respective fields but too stupid to keep their helmets in or unable to avoid the temptation of petting a weird alien creature they knew nothing about. That was my issue... I didn't hate the movie but I kinda hated that it could have been so much better if not for the laziness of how they established the conflict.

@GAltringham Right here. At my old place in 2012 we had an Alien watch party the day before Prometheus was released in theaters. I remember the next night being so hyped before and even more so after. It delivered everything I was looking for, I still I don’t understand the hate behind it.

What about sprinting as fast as you can in the stairwell until you feel like you might pass out ? I don't have a ton of time for cardio during the week so I've been trying to force myself to do these very short but intense bursts a few times a day at work? Is that likely to improve vo2 max? Or is that closer to heavy lifting? For sustained elevated heart rate I go hiking but it's not as frequent as I'd like.

Elevated heart rate during lifting is a stress response, not a cardiovascular adaptation. Cardio requires sustained, moderate output that trains your heart to pump more blood per beat. Squats train your heart to survive a heavy load. Completely different adaptation. One builds VO2 max, the other builds resilience under pressure. You need both!

heh, why do we want to go to the moon? for some people the answer is just because it's there :) When my kids were younger I remember a few times picking them up at school and groups of kids were huddled around their phones cheering when the original SpaceX rockets were landing in the middle of the ocean on some platform, that is amazing for it's own sake, inspiring kids towards what their future might look like. But I think you might be off on cost vs ROI . I think the estimates are something like for every dollar invested by NASA there might be a 10 fold return in economic activity (estimates vary). There are plenty of tangible benefits for communications, imaging tech. materials science, etc. We might not be that far off from mining resources from asteroids or harnessing energy in orbit to power new AI training clusters. I'm almost 50 and I kinda expect to see these things in my lifetime, might be overly optimistic but I think it's possible.

@istanblue_3460 I should learn how to make this, my kids love this cake and always request it from my mom :) I've been resisting learning how to bake things but there's a few polish cakes I really should start making, another one on my list is drożdżak

Well, unlike sex which is a biological reality race is very much a social construct. Black and white are convoluted Ven diagrams composed of numerous ethnic groups . There is btw more genetic diversity within the African continent than the rest of the world combined. The Kalahari Bushmen are fascinating example where two people from neighboring tribes can be more genetically distinct than Europeans are from Asians.

@PlanetPegasus @DerkowskiChris @FantasyWorldW1 Just because someone looks like something doesn't change their race. The same way just like someone looking like a woman doesn't change their gender. You are what your DNA is. You say Obama is not white, he is not black either. Why do you insist on calling him black?

I'm not sure when the term got redefined but it seems today it can be used against anyone whenever anything related to race comes up, so I'm just reciprocating. In general, the appropriate expression would be race obsessed, which in itself is somewhat racist, but he went further to say a show like GOT has one type of person, I don't know whatever that means exactly but that also sounds kinda racist under the new broadened rules.

John...they were not made nor written to be racist...Tolkein was a white man in a white country writing for his contemporaries...Martin too....and so what? would you go after Wole Soyinka for only writing for Africans? NO NO you wouldn't....would you go after African cinema for failing to feature whites or asians? NO NO you wouldn't so STOP this bullshit...modern writers do acknowledge our changing racial landscapes...but back then John, the local shop owner was not Mohammad, the local barber wasn't Turkish, there were no Mosques and that's fact...so instead of hating us and our history tey embracing it because if you claim to be British its YOUR heritage too...or are you not? are you just African? Then go there JOhn...and embrace that heritage...and remember to berate them for having no whites in their fairy stories no one was being racist here but John Boyega

@jonkay I think female athletes are allowed to compete in the male sports or sport leagues? Pretty sure that's true in at least some cases, not common but pretty awesome when it happens.

I'm pretty sure nearly every previous US president tried to get NATO to meet the 2% GDP obligation for military spending, unfortunately this probably was the only way to actually do it. This might turn out to be a good thing long term, at least for Europe and the US. Canada is a special case, it's very directly in the US's interest to kinda protect us but really, just for the sake of some national pride we should step up a bit, our military is sad.

@_CoreyRobertson @BadWeatherKyle I am not a fan of March and April, objectively the worst time in Alberta, actual winter is awesome, Fall is the best but too short, but yeah, I agree with you that there's no actual spring here, it's just a tug of war between winter and summer.

Anyone thinking this vote will likely pass is in a delusional bubble. There's a sliver of a chance if most albertans decide to stay home and not vote but the province is overwhelmingly against it. Also, even in the very unlikely event that the vote does pass it is still a far cry from actual separation, it would be the first of many steps. And still even if that were to happen most people in Alberta that are for separating are for an independent Alberta, not part of the US. You seem like someone bad at gauging probable outcomes.

It's super sad, not sure why so many people can't seem to understand that trajectory is more important than the current state and that we haven't yet got the full bill for the last decade. And as much as Carney is obviously an improvement over Trudeau slowing down the pace of decline isn't a remedy. Sorry but things will very likely get worse before they get better., but things will eventually get better... probably.
